Whole system thinking looks at all combinations & interactions between: a top-down technology focused & bottom-up behaviour focused approaches.

Key findings:

1⃣ Unlike 80% target, Net Zero narrows the set of decarbonisation pathways & leaves little slack for fossil fuels.
2⃣ Net Zero success depends on support for innovation & scale. A techno-focused path will need:

✅Bioenergy with Carbon Capture & Storage to offset emissions

✅Electricity may need to double - wind power & advanced nuclear are key

✅Hydrogen at levels of today’s electricity.

People can LIE on the census form if it has a citizenship question, or not turn the form in.

But a survey of GOVERNMENT RECORDS? That will be **far** more accurate.

How do I know this?

Because in 2007 I was on food stamps for 6 months.
To make a long story short: an engraving/sign company I worked for had bad people in it that constantly covered up for their own mistakes by blaming people further down the chain.

A huge job got wrecked. Rather than take responsibility, the person altered the records.
Surreptitiously changing the work order though meant that me, 2 others in the engraving dept, 3 people in the production dept [who cut the expensive brass] & about 5 people in the finishing dept **all read the original work order wrong** & never spotted it in over 2 months.

She claims the £trillion #netzero 2050 target is not enough - it should be more than 100% & sooner & therefore more expensive. & she wants us to stay in the EU, the rules of which prevent lower rates of VAT.

How does she think net zero will be paid for? Not too bright, is she.
Caroline Lucas says we should be on a 'war footing' - our response to climate change should be like WWII.

At the start of WWII, Purchase Tax (VAT) was increased to 33 1/3%. It was doubled in 1942, and then increased to 100% in 1943.

"War footing" means expense.
Greens just don't get basic economics. Lucas also demands more public transport, and that it should be cheaper. But public transport is very expensive - especially trains, which are already subsidised.

The two faces of the Net Zero target. How to pretend a blank cheque isn't a blank cheque.
It is not only feasible that the costs of #netZero will exceed the amounts stated by Stern, Turner, Gummer, and the CCC.

Give me an example in which *ANY* government body has accurately estimated costs of a *favoured* policy. HS2? Crossrail?

Here is one of their calculations.

Even if they are *right*, it could mean that the next three decades are characterised by economic stagnation.

That's assuming no external or internal economic shocks, such as another global recession. That would plunge the UK into depression.

1. Carrots and sticks: Legal targets cut through ROI & get #retrofit to top of agenda. The #CleanGrowthStrategy targets are already driving investment amongst our public and private sector clients and action will accelerate once the standards, and their enforcement, are clarified
2. Sell the sofa not the finance: Of the carrots, our research amongst home-owners shows there is appetite for good-value #retrofit finance to overcome upfront costs, but the rest of the offer has to appeal first. Again, multiple levers are needed.
