He’s the victim of a modern day lynching in America. It’s absolutely disgusting that a great many people are defending this killing.

We CANNOT allow laws like Stand Your Ground to give lethal racism a license to kill.

There is a myth, perpetuated by the @NRA & Republicans:

“Stand Your Ground laws ensure society is safer, if I’m allowed to shoot anyone who threatens me.”

That’s why a former police officer shot an innocent black man out for a jog, & why prosecutors declined to charge them.
This lie is the MOST VILE law they currently peddle. SYG laws allow a person to legally shoot someone who they deem a threat, even if they may safely & easily retreat to prevent escalation!

It’s a classic situation where everyone thinks they’re the “good guy w/ a gun”.
SYG laws enable a person to use lethal action as a first step, instead of last resort defensive use. It’s a disgusting abuse of firearm ownership.

In states that have enacted SYG laws, violence has escalated sharply.....
Florida for example, saw a rise of 32% in gun homicide.

79% of cases the assailant easily could have fled.

68% the victim was unarmed!
In many cases, shoot first laws give justification for shooting opponents in racially tense situations.

This allows systemic racism to LEGALLY play out in a fatal & tragic way....
In fact, in a SYG state, the odds of a white-on-black murder being justified is 281% MORE likely than a white-on-white murder.

281%!!!

That is insane!

SYG laws get many people killed, & further enable lethal racism. It’s abhorrent. It needs to end NOW.

This Women’s Day, I want to discuss a myth purported by the NRA & Republicans that they use to justify not passing sensible #GunReform laws.

Myth:
“A gun is the ultimate equalizer, and gives women power in dangerous situations. Gun laws, therefore, are sexist.” 🙄
While firearms do give advantage to some women, that advantage is many times manipulated against them. A woman carrying a firearm for self defense is actually much more likely to have it used against her.
“Women who were victims of attempted or completed crimes used guns to defend themselves just 0.4% of the time,'' according to the NCVS.

Women are 100 times more likely to be murdered by a man w/ a gun than to use it to kill in self-defense.

Recently a Republican admitted to me that there’s NOTHING Trump could do to waiver their support of him.

#VeryStableGenius really wasn’t lying when he said he could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue & shoot someone....

That’s called blind support- being a BLIND follower. 🧑‍🦯
Some of the most infamous leaders in history have committed some of the most atrocious acts because they had blind followers.

Jim Jones, Charles Manson, & Adolf Hitler’s supporters just nodded & enabled/assisted their leaders, without ever questioning the horrors they enacted.
Now it’s happening right here, possibly to someone you know.

Blind loyalty looks like: justifying denial of science, sexual assault, racism, & putting kids in cages. It looks like minimizing election sabotage by a foreign hostility.

Those are characteristics of a cult!
