Dear Arewa, can we talk on this?

Some of the cultures we carry during marriages are not really necessary, & if anything, have contributed to so many marriage problems in the North. I am not against us spending much during marriages, but why not do so wisely?
What is the point of spending at least 1.5 million naira on a 2—hours dinner, yet you won't invest further in your wife? The moment you marry her, you have taken FULL RESPONSIBILITY of her life. Invest in her education or her business. If she excels, so do you.
As the Prophet (SAW) said in his last sermon, "Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under Allah’s trust and with His permission."
Instead of spending so much on weddings, can we substitute some of the cultures or monetize some of the events & give the wife & invest in her education? Instead of buying jewelries she might not use, can we make it a culture to give her the money for business or to start one?
Whatever culture that is unproductive shouldn't be something we hold, especially at this time. Invest on our women & see. Those bright ones in medicine, support them till end. Those with business ideas, invest in it too. Those with farming & poultry, invest in them hugely.
Then give us a span of ten years & see how things will change drastically. A mother that is financially stable won't sit & see her son out of school. In the event of death of the father, they won't be stranded completely be abuse there's a plan for them. Let us think about it.
*because there is a plan for them.
