I suggest:
1. Repeat the ask. “Actually, I’ve looked at your work and I think you’re really the person I want to talk with. Would you be willing to consider it?
3. Make it safe. “How about we give it a shot? If you’re uncomfortable with the outcome, we can always scrap it. But I’d really prefer to talk with you.”
The book “What Works for Women at Work” did a great job documenting the biases women face in academia & business, which often lead to fear and imposter syndrome.
I read it annually for many years and made innumerable changes. That helped others see me differently and helped change my negative thought patterns. It was a career changer.
