If you’re not currently masking, this would be a great time to start. With high quality masks - KN94 or better yet N95.

If you’ve not had Covid, you should be trying to avoid it. If you’ve had Covid even once, you should REALLY be trying to avoid it.
1/? What you’re really trying to avoid is long term damage and/or long Covid. The more times you’re infected with acute Covid, the greater the risk.

If you are younger or have kids, you should be especially concerned. Living decades with a chronic condition is not great.

As a grant reviewer, what do you really wish people would do/not do?

Not big things, like find a significant question/innovative method/be consistent with aims

Little things, like bold each acronym the first time it’s used

Add your pet peeves ⬇️
#AcademicChatter #research Really want bolded acronyms. Or a table of acronyms. At the minimum, verify you actually spelled it out before using the acronym!!

I am an extremely privileged Black American.

My family has been privileged for generations, first through education and later through powerful jobs and their accompanying lifestyle.

This privilege does not bring safety for me or my family. 1/ Education, position, money, language, clothes; nothing buys safety.

And we should not require these things to achieve safety in the land of the free.

@nadiasdaly As a woman in science, I’ll say it’s hard but your experience is disappointing.

I suggest:

1. Repeat the ask. “Actually, I’ve looked at your work and I think you’re really the person I want to talk with. Would you be willing to consider it? @nadiasdaly 2. Be open. “I hear you. But on the other hand, I’m making an intentional effort to get comments from women who are experts. You are clearly an expert.”

#Covid is more infectious than #influenza, and it’s spreading like wildfire. It causes large numbers of people to need hospital care, and if they survive they often stay hospitalized for a long time. #Covid19 is probably >30 times more deadly than #flu. 1/

#coronavirus The reason for the urgency in the US is that our hospital system is woefully unprepared. The US has fewer hospital beds per 1000 people than Italy, and because of how our insurance system works, the way hospitals make money is by staying nearly full. 2/
