Yesterday the FCC received filings for 81,195 new non geostationary satellites reports indicate. Technically this is referred to as "a lot of satellites." The constellations are at LEO not MEO since otherwise they can't quality for the rural subsidies in the US due to latency.
OneWeb, which is in Chaper 11, filed with the FCC for 48,000 satellites because: why not? advanced-television.com/2020/05/27/one… There was a time in 1980s when all you needed to do to obtain a license for cellular was file an application with FCC and win a beauty contest and later a lottery.
Any space based communications platform is all about tradeoffs. To get Y you must give up X. There are laws of physics involved that are not just guidelines. Eg, Viasat loves a GEO for capacity but at the speed of light to that orbit and back takes time. investors.viasat.com/static-files/e…
