Whether it's #COVID19, healthcare disparities, or police brutality, Black people need STRONGER white allies.

We are NOT expecting perfection from white people but here's how to be a BETTER ally to people of colour.

1. Great allies listen, listen, and learn.

To be an effective ally, it's necessary to understand the experiences of those you want to support.

Let them tell you.
2. Do your OWN research on the issues.

How are you going to be an effective ally if you don't know what the issues are?

Don't just learn about white supremacy, but understand how your personal lives support it.
3. Support the opening of spaces, WITHOUT taking them over.

You need to understand your privilege can be a powerful tool of allyship OR oppression.

Never speak for others.
4. Ask "do you need help?" and not "how can I help you?".

Check your saviour complex before it gets checked for you.
5. First start anti-racist work in your OWN circles.

Be a vocal ally in your personal spaces.

Your dinner tables, zoom meetings, and Whatsapp group chats are filled with opportunities.
6. Effective allyship is rooted in the needs of those most affected.

Make sure that your actions and efforts are not only those vetted by the community but that it works in concert with what they are already doing.

Accountability and partnership is rooted in good allyship.
7. Stop using “they, them and those people” framing when talking about white supremacy and racism.

White supremacy and racism should be instead, rooted in your thought processes in “me, we and us.”

How you frame it influences how you respond.
