The #Coronavirus and its death toll - esp for people who lost their loved ones without being able to be with them & say final words - will leave massive scars that, for many, will never heal. The grief is hard enough but so many children will be affected, too
The societal cost of the pandemic - esp frayed social bonds - will take years to be repaid. Churches & Religious houses are one of the few - if not the only - places where everyone of all social strata/backgrounds/ages join together. Stopping their meeting has its costs, too
Was speaking yesterday in a discussion & I do not think political classes - whose pay banks reliably every 2 weeks, regardless of what happens outside the bubble - have any idea of the societal ruins that will have to be (re)built upon. No one who went through this will forget
I could not sleep the other night & threaded ideas on the pandemic's politics & cannot help thinking that, at least for Australians, perhaps for others, the end is nigh for the 1980s liberal conception, which was always foreign to our own traditions. YMMV

The sight of the West's politicians - refusing to sit in their legislatures because of their apparently precious health - while expecting nurses, doctors, retail workers, truckers, wharf/port workers etal to be exposed to Plague is why they fully deserve their people's contempt
Imagine being someone denied their last moments with a dying loved one, and denied also a proper funeral and burial for them, who now observes a media with so complete a contempt for the “social distancing” that caused the bereaved such additional grief.
