So here's something that happened today that really brought home to me just how pissed people are at the #GeorgeFloyd killing.
I'm a big fan of a game called M.U.G.E.N. It's basically a classic fighting game, but anyone can create characters for it easily with free software.

You can make Mario fight Spider-Man. Or have Sauron take on Bugs Bunny. Bart Simpson vs. Spyro. Basically whatever you want.
Thousands of people play this game and players are always uploading new characters people can swap, share, and put in their games.

Anyway, today on MUGENArchive.com, I noticed someone uploading an...unusual character.

It was called "Derek Chauvin The Humanoid Scum."
I clicked on it thinking, no way, someone didn't just make the Minneapolis cop who murdered George Floyd a playable...

Yes. Yes they did.
He's what's classified as a "punching bag" character.

A character with no moves, no attacks, who exists solely for other characters to beat the living tar out of him.
Out of sheer curiosity I downloaded it and yes. It puts a photorealistic picture of the cop in the game and you can make anyone from Indiana Jones to Superman to the Powerpuff Girls beat him up.

I guess everyone protests in their own way.

I still expect Lindsey Graham to win this. His approval rating just isn't low enough that he could underperform Trump by the amount needed.

But Jaime Harrison has run an astonishingly good campaign. Like, way better than I could have imagined.
Harrison reminds me in some ways of Beto.

He's an underdog candidate in a red state against an incumbent whose national infamy is drawing huge money into the race, but he also understands the political lay of his state well and is trying to build a local movement.
And that could matter. Beto didn't win his race but the attention and excitement he generated gave TX Dems a coattail effect, flipped dozens of local races, and left the state party with a stronger infrastructure.

Harrison could do the same in SC even if he doesn't beat Graham.

Mitch McConnell.

He's seen as this master of the Senate who can do whatever he wants, but he actually sucks at whipping votes. The truth is, the Senate is designed to let any one member shut down debate, and it just so happens his entire agenda involves shutting down debate.
Even what McConnell called his "proudest moment" — denying Merrick Garland a hearing — didn't take a great deal of tactical Senate skill.
On the rare occasions McConnell has had to whip votes to affirmatively pass something, he's pretty poor at it.

Remember McCain's thumbs-down? Majority leaders never call a floor vote they're going to lose. McConnell not knowing he didn't have the votes was stunning incompetence.

This pollster typically has a slight house effect for Dems, so the presidential and Senate races probably aren't *that* close. However, the trendline is what matters here...Ernst's lead has shrunk considerably since their last poll.
Iowa is a challenging state for Democrats.

It's one of the most rural swing states, but that's not the whole reason Dems have struggled there. The state has plenty of growing suburbs that in theory should blunt the rightward drift of the rurals.
The main problem for Dems in Iowa is bad timing coupled with incumbency bias.

Iowa has among the strongest incumbency bias of any state — voters like to keep incumbents, both Democratic and Republican. That's why its partisan voting index varies a lot more than, say, Florida.
