@buildingphysics @PassiveHouseBB @the_iPHA @phplusmag 1/6 #Ongrid or #offgrid is not an inherent part of the #passivehouse standard. You can do whatever you want. That said: Our *recommendation* is to install renewable generation and to connect to the grid.
@buildingphysics @PassiveHouseBB @the_iPHA @phplusmag 2/6 Why not inherent?Because it's of minor importance.The solution of the climate-crisis is to reduce climate-gas emissions as far as possible (to almost zero in 50yrs).This is best done by improving efficiency (a factor 10 is doable). #Passivehouse concentrates on this potential
@buildingphysics @PassiveHouseBB @the_iPHA @phplusmag 3/6 This would be sufficent to solve the problem,because there are enough renewable resources for supply of the remaining very low demand (1/10). But: To reach the goal even faster, we support introducing renewable energy fast.
@buildingphysics @PassiveHouseBB @the_iPHA @phplusmag 4/6 So, we recommend combining max. PV installation in every opportunity it's worth ist - and that is, e.g. buidling or refurbishing a roof. You'll need a new cover anyhow. It can be PV, and we recommend this.
@buildingphysics @PassiveHouseBB @the_iPHA @phplusmag 5/6 PV without grid connecting would be:

- a waste of investment if excess generation can't be used
- or unnecessarily expensive with individual big storage

To connect to the grid is NOT expensive - and it's just there almost everywhere. So we recommend to connect.
@buildingphysics @PassiveHouseBB @the_iPHA @phplusmag 6/6 Now:If the building is connected,it will be a very good grid-citizen:#PH even in max.load heating condition can be without active heating for at least a day(up to 5d)without anybody noticing comfort decline.That's due to the very long time constant coming with good insulation
@buildingphysics @PassiveHouseBB @the_iPHA @phplusmag Now a final remark:
- a democratic grid structure could make the development much more attractive
- the elitist affection of some utilities is the major reason some people really want to go off grid - thats not the best solution, but it's possible with high energy efficiency
@buildingphysics @PassiveHouseBB @the_iPHA @phplusmag So, off-grid would be a second-best solution; although a democratic grid-structure with a shared responsibility of generation and consumption (and each member will be both: a supplier (at some time) and a user (at other times)) is much better; less expensive; &more integrative
