There was a problem with smoke entering cabs of the C locos so various designs of smoke deflectors were tried and small short smoke deflectors located either side of the funnel was the solution. Image

In the 1920s/30s CR considered that at least 14 KA locos were surplus to requirements and tried to sell them, fortunately unsuccessfully, because of the subsequent demands on rail in WW2.
