Racism and the underrepresentation of Black people must be called out wherever it occurs – including in the tech sector and environmental movement.
Environmentalism needs to be intersectional, because the consequences of the climate crisis are hitting People of Color, especially Black people, the hardest. Without systemic change and social justice, we can’t tackle the climate crisis.
Many Ecosia employees benefit from white privilege. A statement of solidarity is not enough and we must continue to learn how we can support social justice in everything we do.
Ecosia has donated to @Blklivesmatter and will make a monthly contribution to @BIPOCIT (Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color in Tech), a Berlin-based group that creates safer spaces for those who are underrepresented or marginalized in tech.
We will continue to work with local and indigenous communities to plant trees where they are needed most, and commit to highlighting more environmentalists who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color on our platforms.
