I understand that folks who don't read this feed—or who do and want to misrepresent its values—would love to take individual tongue-in-cheek tweets out of context. But I have an unbroken half-a-decade record of supporting peaceful activism only *and* adherence to the rule of law.
I believe in anti-fascism—but I believe in resisting fascism through legal means or nonviolent civil disobedience. I understand it's an unpopular view among some readers, but as an attorney who swore an oath I *don't* support violence by Antifa except in last-resort self-defense.
I *also* know that the evidence that Antifa is behind any recent mid- or post-protest violence is virtually *nil*. So I *only* mention Antifa here because though I've decried their methods many times on the feed, there are still people on the right who falsely say I'm pro-Antifa.
I'm not looking to argue with anyone on this. Disagreeing with Antifa on the use of violence doesn't mean that I don't have empathy for, or that I somehow have contempt for, those who in good faith come to a different conclusion. But it doesn't change that I *strongly* disagree.
In any case, be aware that there are elements of the alt-right online who are right now desperately trawling verified Twitter accounts to try to craft a narrative in which mainstream leftists promote violence in DC. Well look elsewhere guys—this is a rule-of-law, nonviolent feed.
BTW, on a side note, I want to concede that the rule of law has consistently let me down with respect to Trump and his minions over the last few years. But I became an attorney and swore an oath for a reason: I still believe in rule of law as the right path, even when it falters.
I also want to say—though it almost goes without saying—that the alt-right trolls hunting for some left-wing violent conspiracy are grotesque hypocrites who themselves regularly push violence when it suits their purpose. As to having principles, they don't have a leg to stand on.
Moreover, the God-Emperor of the alt-right is a war criminal, a serial sexual assailant, a philanderer, a pathological liar, an instigator of violence, a lifelong con man, a regular recipient of bribes and generally someone who—if you follow him—you can't say you have principles.
