You can see how much the misnomer #DefundthePolice is confusing people, given that WP begins its article by calling #DefundThePolice "a movement to slash funding for police departments or to disband them entirely"—two wildly different objectives that can't be conjoined with "or."
PS/ It'd be like saying #BlackLivesMatter is "a movement to center black lives or fix the pastrami slicer at Gideon's Deli in Piscataway, NJ." Those who want police reform and have fought for it—like me, and many millions of others—must acknowledge that confusion is being caused.
PS2/ Police department abolitionists—of which there are relatively few, but some—aside, what the phrase "defund the police" is supposed to mean (but, critically, *doesn't mean* in the English language) is defund *certain police functions* better served by non-paramilitary units.
