FWIW -- this is the EU trying to get ahead of #misinformation as part of wider push to overhaul online content rules -- a package a proposals that will be outlined by end of year.

Reading btwn the lines: the EU is still divided on a couple of things -- how to respond to state-backed disinformation campaigns b/c not all countries see role of Russia/China in the media landscape as a bad thing.
In short -- expect strong words against Russia/China, calls on platforms to do more & lots of platitudes about need for media literacy, funding for journalism & protection of EU interests/fundamental rights
Will this do much to stop mis/dis-information? I'm skeptical. The montly reporting should help w/ transparency, but the state-backed stuff isn't going to stop b/c of this. Also big hole: domestic actors & their role in spread falsehoods.
