Day 104 and 105 - #COVID19 in Iran

Picking up from 2 days ago
[Current Outlook]

The situation is becoming dire in more provinces. After Khuzestan, now reports of critical conditions in provinces of Hormozgan and Kurdistan and Kermanshah. By the day things are getting worse, whether we have reached the level of 1st wave I am not sure yet.
News outlets and official reporting in Iran have stopped reporting number of cases in critical condition although they have to provide it to WHO. And once something is suddenly not reported, well...

Yes: jump from 2639 to 2728 in 1 day. Few days ago this was just creeping up.
Kurdistan province (1.6M) is the new addition. The hospitals flooded according to official reports. Non-COVID patients evacuated to make room for COVID cases.

Ahvaz in Khuzestan (4.7M) registering 796 cases today, up from 550 a couple of weeks ago when the condition was declared critical.

My firsthand contacts confirm hospital beds are currently "managed" - i.e. prioritisation to ensure critical cases admitted.
The trend of drop in the age of the hospital cases are worrying - according to the health officials.

Shahroud (150K) in Semnan province (631K) has recently been pretty quiet in the #COVID19 news after being severely hit during the 1st wave - until NOW.

Reports of 2nd wave according to the health officials.

Another province which is in status Red is Kermanshah (950K). Deaths rising and hospitals hit bad.

Tehran (9M) is in a pretty stable situation with 260 admissions a day (today), down from as high as 400 two months ago but up from <200 a couple of weeks ago.

Health staff are still under big risk. Isfahan health officials report of 5000 staff contracted #COVID19 so far in this province (5.1M). If you remember, many were from Kashan, one of the cities hit severely during the 1st wave.

And we keep losing medical staff. Dr. Safoura Nouraee, Specialist in Pulmonary Diseases in Paediatrics in Tehran lost her life due to #COVID19
Shirin Safaei, a nurse in Baqiatollah hospital in Tehran lost her life today due to #COVID19
Arezou Bahou in Children's Hospital in Bandar Abbas (from 2 weeks ago) lost her life due to #COVID19 .

On other news, the wave of suicides sadly ongoing. And many of them can be traced back to poverty. Now this has started attract attention of the officials.

Unlike last time, NO Graphic footage below - but the content is sensitive of course.
This footage is not graphic (the body has been taken away already) but is emotional (victim's shoes and the remnant of rope).

A young oil refinery worker committed suicide due to poverty and not being paid his salary.
This is just one of recent tragedies but has been acknowledges by the state media and the Oil Minister has promised to look into it.

A picture of him. A sad situation.

Another non-graphic footage - an unsuccessful attempt by another worker this time working in an oil rig. There is no reason for me to doubt its authenticity - but have to warn that is yet unconfirmed.
Another non-graphic picture, allegedly showing a suicide victim (40 year old female) being taken to mortuary in Parsabad in Ardabil province.
Just in the last 3 weeks, 4 teenagers in Saqqez (165K) in Kurdistan province have died from committing suicide:

- Negin (female) 17
- Ala (female?) 14
- Danial (male) 16
- Mofideh (female) 17

The economic landscape is just frightening for the working class. The price of egg has risen by 40% in the last two weeks.

The currency is just getting hammered. Just in a month it has lost 14%: USDIRL jumping from 15800 toman to +18000 over a month.

For in-depth analysis, have a look at this article (sorry in Farsi but google does a decent job of translating).

Finishing with this heartwarming video. Australian ambassador to Tehran has created this video and speaking in a pretty fluent Farsi excplaining how he is making Fesenjān, his favourite Persian dish, during #COVID19 lockdown. [I can put subtitles if people interested]
