Just to put today’s far right thuggery and it’s reporting in perspective as well as the attempt by MP’s and some figures in the media to downplay its representativeness of the extent of racism in Brexit Britain, you only have to recall the reporting violence in Northern Ireland..
Then you had the British media criticising protestors and any acts of violence by Irish people as indicative of the savage nature of sectarian hatred that was widespread throughout the population at large. There was no attempt to educate or inform the British public otherwise.
Even though that was not the case in reality as the vast majority of Irish nationalists rejected the actions of the IRA outright, that myth of an Irish problem was readily seized upon by the establishment to shift the blame onto the Irish as an uncivilised and unruly nation.
Yet today the British establishment and its media have already cranked into action to depict the violence in London by thousands of far right extremists as the actions of just a small number of thugs or pricks wholly unpresentative of the greater British society.
That is a clearly false narrative and one which the establishment and its media will try to plaster over in the days ahead or gasp in horror as if from some distant planet or had nothing to do with vote leave, empowering hatred and the divisions in society created by Brexit!
It’s not rocket science to see how this happened whilst a gutless Prime Minister is in office who cannot even control his mad puppet master in charge at No 10. It’s all about the toxic messaging that has been at the heart of government and it stinks.
It stinks because it has been allowed to fester unchecked and some more. It has been underwritten by the actions of a far right government that has almost given these thugs the nod to cause violence on our streets in order to avoid taking responsibility for its own actions!
This government knows that the BLM protests are addressing the legacy of British colonialist attitudes and its violence around the globe in the pursuit of a blood soaked empire and for the first in British history, people are asking questions about their past and wanting answers!
Right now Johnson and the rest of this government and the elite establishment that endorse its survival are most scared of the power of a people on the march who are redefining who they are unfettered by the legacy of the sins of the past, who won’t take no for an answer.
The young are no longer willing to accept that we are living in a racist society that the establishment has attempted to gloss over by erecting statues that glorify those individuals for the part they played in creating the myth of a just, tolerant, colonial Britain.
Education about our colonial past is no longer dependent on the approval of government but is being accessed through the power of the internet by a younger more informed generation who are appalled at the truth behind the racist past of these celebrated icons of their past.
These icons are the cornerstones of a colonial past upon which the British establishment has maintained its own narrative on British history that has also maintained the lies that have underpinned the moral authority of successive government to rule in their name and honour.
And that is why these protests are viewed by the establishment as so seditious and dangerous to their grip on power. It strikes at the heart of what is the real nature of our past and how it impacts on the present before we can create any solutions.
That is what governments fear most - an educated and informed public that is no longer prepared to be fed propaganda and the myths created around our past and is determined to reject the injustices left behind and the ruling establishment and government that perpetrates them.
