(1) Anatomy of a Sewer Super-Spreading Site:

In the past, Bubbly Creek was a dumping grounds for the Chicago Stockyards. Upton Sinclair singled it out in "The Jungle".

Now it's a nexus for Combined Sewer Overflows. The surrounding zip code, 60609, is a #COVID19 Hot Spot.
(2) On a per capita basis, the Chicago Loop and the North Shore have the lowest COVID-19 Case Rate in the Greater Chicago area.

Four zip codes on the Chicago Southside form the epicenter the Chicago outbreak. Zip code 60609 just happens to include Bubbly Creek.
(3) The three zip codes to the west surround "The Chicago Sanitary and Ship Channel", which under normal flow conditions contains the stormwater outflow of downtown Chicago, aka "The Loop".
(4) The four zip code cluster around "The Chicago Sanitary and Ship Channel" are 60623 (upper right), 60632 (upper left), 60629 (lower right) and 60609 (lower left).
(5) From a system perspective the normal flow of CSO waste out of the Northside and Downtown is right past this 4-zipcode cluster. The Chicago river can be reversed into Lake Michigan under emergency conditions, and there is a channel to reverse the lower branch, too.
(6) The remaining Hot Spot zip code is up North on Cicero south of the Kennedy; it is 60639. It seems to be unrelated to the Combined Sewer Overflows.
(7) That zip code includes Belmont-Cragin and is a Latino-Polish neighborhood where many only speak Spanish and many do not have Health Insurance. There are high levels of unemployment, and I noticed the local park had a stocked lagoon with a "Casting Pier".
(8) Then I came across this. Belmont-Cragin had a large number of basement floodings during the record heavy rains that Chicago absorbed in April and May.

Sewer Super-Spreading again?
(9) While Chicago was locked down, it observed record rainfalls and had to divert Combined Sewer and Stormwater into Lake Michigan for several days.

The Northside and the Loop were spared. Four zip codes along the Combined Sewer Overflow discharge route suffered.
(10) The other zip code that was a Hot Zone was not located near either river and endured many basement flooding events during the rain. When these floods occur sewer water & gas rise out of the pipes and into buildings & homes.

This may well have contributed to the outbreak.
(11) I have investigated many cities now, that seem to have had Sewer Super-Spreading of #coronavirus.

Milan, New York, Madrid, Brussels, London and now Chicago.

Others like Tokyo, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Miami don't.

Please help me raise awareness.
(13) In Chicago, Minorities live where stormwater doesn't drain.

Our five #COVID19 zip code Hot Spots are all victims of poor stormwater management and urban flooding.

cnt.org/urban-flooding…
(14) In Chicago, where minorities live, stormwater doesn't drain, and Combined Sewer Overflow outfalls dump sewage past them from the Chicago, Calumet and Des Plaines rivers.
(15) The prioritization of Stormwater Management investment toward white neighborhoods and the inequitable distribution of Combined Sewer Overflow outfalls are forms of White Privilege due to over-representation that most just don't see.

Please see it now with me.
