A few things that Claire Lehmann of #Quillette hasn't grasped.

1) It is #StephenHsu's position as @michiganstateu Vice President, Research & Innovation, that is in question.

2) That admin position is distinct from his status as a professor in the Dept of Physics and Astronomy.
3) The petition by #MSU's Graduate Employees Union asks for the removal of Stephen Hsu from his admin position as VP Research & Innovation. Not from his role as professor at the same uni.
4) It's beyond laughable to suggest any graduate student would ask for the removal of one of the most stratospheric administrators of their uni in a bid to create better job prospects for themselves. Deeply ridiculous.

Claire doesn't know what she's talking about. #Quillette
More things that Claire is a bit confused about.

5) Stephen Hsu, if resigning or being let go from his post as VP, Research & Innovation, will NOT (repeat: NOT):

-- be sentenced to death
-- need to escape this death sentence
-- live the next 20 years in a labour camp
If resigning, Hsu will also *NOT*:

-- be trapped for 900 days during the siege of East Lansing
-- need to choose between starving himself to death or eating the hard drive where his IQ embryo editing notes are stored

Now that's cleared up, do you have a relevant point, Claire?
6) A petition is not a mob, Claire. Try again. Having to repeat this simple piece of information is boring. The repetition does give me a chance, however, to link one of my favourite threads skewering #Quillette editors' tactics.

#genrestudies

My dear Claire, you are losing the plot.

Also, I would recommend not issuing inconsistent claims between the cover post and the text of a counter-petition.
7) If you claim that as VP Research & Innovation Hsu's eugenic claims and appearances with white supremacists can't be considered because there's such a thing as free speech, don't insinuate a grad student can't organize a petition because you don't like that he has free speech.
Short self-assessment for Claire Lehmann.

Tell us if you remember what point 2) and 3) said!

If no, scroll back up. Read the thread again.

Guess what follows from 2) and 3)?

. . .

Take another minute.

. . .

. . .
8) It follows that even if leaving his VP Research & Innovation post, Stephen Hsu still has a job. As a full professor. Tenured. Salaried. At a public research university.

Claire, you can spare your tears.
BTW, in 2013, already as VP, Stephen Hsu made $280,000. The man will never have to worry about money or his livelihood. That's seven years ago. And that's only that. Who knows what his additional income from other and previous ventures is.
