It's getting really hard to take a circuitous route to me higher education.
Who thought B.S. Comp. Sci. -> job -> pay down debt -> M.S. Comp Sci -> PhD would be so painful?

The road ahead is looking steep but it will be my contribution to society

B.S. Comp. Sci -> job -> pay debts || B.A. Applied Math is what's available to me, because I missed out on regional accreditation first go 'round.
To do Computational Neuroscience (the original goal) it's looking something like ...

B.A.A.M -> Extra Biology credits thanks to the CUNY system -> M.S. Cognitive Neuroscience -> Systems, Cognition, and Computational Neuroscience.

This is ALL assuming I don't leave NYC. Which is actually incredible and exciting.

I'd be glad to have spectators as I pull this off.

I find it strange that there is a major lack in effort from companies to retrain their programmers while there's still a technical "talent" gap.
Given that, there's at least two gaps in the higher education system. I'm going to riff for a bit, and we'll see where this goes

First there is a gap in retraining people that want to move. Setting aside the enthusiastic-from-novelty crowd, there are many people in industry putting in off-hours to attain high skills. Yet with everything but a PhD and plurality of publication, it's ✌🏽 to you

Second, we have a ton of PhD's that have weirdly can't find a place in industry, even though they are measurably overqualified. The stigma of the 1900's isn't a thing anymore: people that want to keep a steady paycheck don't quit jobs JUST because they are overqualified.
