A Supreme Court bench led by J. AM Khanwilkar hears a plea to stay the Rs 20,000 crore worth Delhi #Centralvista project. Plea challenges the Centre's decision to notify a change in land use regarding the redevelopment plan.

Advocate Shikhil Suri: The authorities are giving approvals for construction despite pending applications.

The environmental clearance committee has passed an order. SG Mehta must assure no further action / step will be taken.

SG Mehta: It is a huge project. Let the amended petition be filed and we shall file reply.

Suri: I will file a rejoinder to it

Senior Adv Sanjay Hegde: Let there be no work on ground and no construction even if they go ahead with any paper work.

Hegde: The environmental clearance issue was taken to the HC. HC was of the view it be dealt by SC. That too may be added with this.

SC observes can it stop authorities to act in accordance with law?

SG Mehta assures court that there is no breach of process in granting clearances to the Central Vista project.

SG Mehta submits that there can be no guarantee of no work on the ground. States that action by centre will be as per orders of the court.

SC bench: We make it clear that any other proceeding regarding the project in question will be considered consolidately

SG: Kindly allow me to give a consolidated reply.

Hegde: We will challenge the environmental clearances granted too. We will file separate petitions as there may be separate causes of actions.

Matters now to be taken up on July 7.
