/ This week we spotlight Dr Katie Hampson (@hampson_katie): lead investigator, aka the boss, of @rabidbites research! Katie is a brilliant researcher and inspirational to the team. She's far too modest to list her achievements so we're gonna do it for her...
#WomenInSTEM
/ Katie is a research scientist at the University of Glasgow, UK. She completed her PhD at Princeton University, USA, before returning to the UK on a @wellcometrust fellowship, where she continues to be funded by Wellcome. gla.ac.uk/researchinstit…
/ Her research interests lie broadly in the ecology of infectious disease but she has dedicated much of her career to a largely neglected one: #rabies.
/ This includes research instrumental to @gavi decision to invest in lifesaving rabies vaccines: bit.ly/2Avuh1Y and establishing effective surveillance tools 📱📋👨🏿‍🔬💉🧬🧪for rabies control and elimination

/ She's so good that she was awarded the Scientific Medal from the Zoological Society of London in 2019 for distinguished work in zoology. And this year was announced as a new Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh! (She also speaks fluent swahili and does Capoeira😉)
/ Not only is Katie a brilliant scientist 👩‍🔬, she's also a fantastic boss! We asked the @rabidbites on working with Katie and what they have been able to achieve under her mentorship....
/ "Apart from helping you reach your potential, Katie helps you choose your right path and roles within the team. Our work on the need to improve 🇹🇿PEP access, that provided additional evidence for GAVI investment, is down to her great networking she set-up for me to grab."
/ "She is soo cool!, I remember thinking... (I) admire her for not only her incredible scientific contributions toward rabies research, but her dedicated mentorship to all her students and postdocs while being a fantastic mother to twins. She IS soo cool!" #WomenInSTEM
/ Working with Katie is me complaining about the limitations of 1 dataset and her pulling another 3 out of the ether to fix things! We're using a rabies transmission model to evaluate the impact of dog vaccination in 🇹🇿 & understand how rabies persists at low incidences
/ "She is both a mentor and supervisor.. treats everybody like a colleague, values one’s opinion and then gently tells me why, at times, it was misguided, showing me/us a better way instead. But mostly she is just a great person, & I feel profoundly grateful to be her student"
/ "I always count the lucky stars that I get to work with Katie (almost 10yrs now). The time and effort she puts in to bring me up-to-date has been the gamechanger for me .....She is hard-working, patient, street smart and an overall wonderful colleague / supervisor to have."
/ Katie is a wonderful supervisor who supports me both as a scientist and a person - I couldn't ask for better!
/ So basically we all bloody love her (bet she's mortified we posted all this 🤣)! She's an amazing scientist, inspirational #WomenInSTEM and all round bad-ass. Someone give this woman a professorship! #WomenInSTEM #inspiringwomen
