Three years ago, I was arrested for the very thing I’m being praised for today.

The lesson is to stay consistent, to be disciplined, and stand in truth.
Three years ago I was arrested for speaking truth to power. A lot of people take this advocacy thing for fun, and notoriety. There is nothing fun about your family being concerned about your well being.
There is nothing fun about being blocked out of opportunities because you spoke the truth. There is nothing fun about being a target for daring to speak like I and so many others do while being Black. How do I know it’s because I’m Black?
In the same meeting a white woman said the same things and was allowed to speak. •

Through the years I’ve learned to brush off the criticism and just make sure I do things from a pure heart.
When we as Black people allow others to treat us less than the citizens we are, we give them permission to continue mistreating us. •

It’s a shame that Tupac’s words still ring true today. We’ve watched videos of Ahmaud Arbery being killed by white men in Georgia.
We’ve watched video of Sean Reed being killed by police in Indianapolis. Followed up by finding out Breonna Taylor was killed by police in Louisville Kentucky on March 13th, as a result of the cops raiding the wrong house. Then George Floyd and Rayshard Brooks. •
Some would say it doesn’t take all that. To that I say, it takes every form of resistance to dismantle systems of oppression. We didn’t just speak out, we filed a law suit in federal court for view point discrimination.
No one should be denied the right to express their views to their government because those in power don’t like what their being told. •

Freedom ain’t free. Liberation will cost you something. That becomes a part of your understanding when you live life with #BlackOnMyMind.
