Answering Neha (cont): saying I’ve mastered critical care would be like saying I’ve mastered life. Every day I start over, just as enthused as I was 30 years ago. How? It is love of the game, really. I have established daily habits of prayer/meditating, reading & recharging... 2/
Answering Neha (cont): Spending time looking people (patients) in the eyes and realizing they are much more than a disease or person in need of a procedure. Stuff you already know, I am sure. Aren't we lucky to be brought into their lives? What a joy 💪⚡️... 3/
Answering Neha (cont): And to be kneeling at their bedside, well, I must be my best. Otherwise, I will let them down. READING: My motto I teach residents and fellows is this: “Read, read, read, read till you are sick to your stomach, read till you puke…then start reading.” 4/
Answering Neha (cont): Patients don't only care what I know, but that I know THEM - each patient as a PERSON! Dog’s name, favorite hobby, & spiritual path. Switch preposition from “what’s the matter WITH her” into “what matters TO her.” These are 🔑 to great critical care. 5/5
