He had strong convictions and he was fearless. When national emergency was clamped on the country, the Metropolitan saw that the country was in danger of losing its hard-won freedom.
He was the only Church leader in India who took courage to write a personal letter to the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi asking to lift the Emergency in the interest of Indian democracy. Thus, he faced the risk of being placed under arrest.
Before long, emergency was lifted and nobody is sure as to how much his letter weighed with the authorities in deciding the issue.

The Marthoma church has been in the news recently for having the Prime Minister as Chief guest for the 90th birthday celebration of Metropolitan Joseph Marthoma..
People will be wondering what is this Marthoma church? If someone is interested , they can read more or ask here.. there is plenty of information on the link shared earlier.. the history of the church and so on..it is a reformed church and i’m a proud Marthomite..
The MarThoma church has a clergy and bishops serving churches around the world.. the church has stood up and done a lot work among the weaker sections of the society and I don’t want to talk about that here but added in for more context as many haven’t even heard of this church.
The BJP and the cadres have done enough damage to the church. the mission work is often at risk coz these thugs come up with the conversion game and even lynch, trash, abuse the missionaries working in mission fields..
There are many incidents but its never is reported.. the church has been silent and hoping that people will eventually change when they know the impact the church and their mission has.. it’s been tough personally but have seen and heard of several incidents and experiences..
Anyway, it’s for another time on the church and it’s mission.. however, there are some soft sanghis in there.. I don’t think the bishops would have anything to do with that but someone in the administration has some connections and if one connects the dots, we will notice that..
When LK Advani was invited to the similar celebration earlier, many raised a red flag... the Church leaders were invited to the swearing ceremony of the Prime minister and now the PM part of the birthday celebration.. who is making these decisions?
The church has suffered and it’s difficult to accept the fact soft approach.. condemn and don’t Gave these bigots any space.. they wil whitewash all the crimes.they will come after you and your people.. these are serpents and if people don’t realize that then it will be too late.
