A thread on #AashadiEkadashi.
Let us all know the significance of this day .
Ekadashi's are devoted to the worship of Lord #Vishnu . The #Ekadashi that falls during Shukla Paksha in month of Aashadh is known as #AashadiEkadashi.
It marks the beginning of Chaturmas. +
It is believed that Lord Vishnu goes into deep slumber in Ksheer Sagar (ocean of milk) perched on Sesh Naga in the months of #Chaturmas. After 4 months Lord Vishnu wakes up from his meditative state & that day is called as #PrabodhiniEkadashi . +
This day is of great importance at #Vitthal temple in #Pandharpur, Maharashtra. Bhagwan Vitthal is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and his followers are called as #Warkari . The entire temple Sanctum is decorated & Vitthal and Rukmini are decked up . +
A religious procession by #Warkari ( the people who follow Lord Vitthal ) is held each year from Allandi and ends on Guru Poornima at Pandharpur. People chant #Abhang (hymns) of Sant #Dyaneshwar & Sant #Tukaram to pay tribute to Lord Vithhal. The procession is blissful!!
Devotees generally wake up early , purify themselves, perform rituals and keep a day long fast on Aashadhi Ekadashi.Few consume a single satvik meal & the fast is broken on the next day (Dwadashi Ekadashi)only during the #Parana period. The day is spent in पूजा & साधना. +
It is considered as one of the most sacred days to devote oneself in the veneration of Lord Vishnu.
As the Abhang of Sant Eknath states,
माझे माहेर पंढरी , आहे भीवरेच्या तीरी.
बाप आणि आई , माझी विठ्ठल रखुमाई.
🙏😇
