The @CDNEnergyCentre is more active on Facebook, so you may have missed the outright climate science denialism they spouted recently. #ableg #abpoli (Thread)
The science is very strong on the link between climate change and the increasing frequency and severity of natural disasters. ipcc.ch/site/assets/up…
As we know, so-called "skeptics" have decided to reject the preponderance of scientific evidence in favour of the small minority of voices (typically, with direct ties to industry funding) who support their denialist narrative.
But those who don't trust scientists typically trust capital and markets. And the market experts in actuarial risk (insurance companies) have been very, ...

... very ... insuranceinstitute.ca/en/resources/i… (from the well-known, foreign-funded anti-energy activists at the Insurance Institute of Canada)

... monolithically ... home.kpmg/xx/en/home/ins… (from the known anti-Alberta ideologues at KPMG)
... unanimously ... nortonrosefulbright.com/en/knowledge/p… (I could do this all day)
... clear.

Unfortunately, @CDNEnergyCentre — charged, ostensibly, with informing the world about our forward-thinking energy industry — seems to be eating straight from the horse's ass.
If you're unfamiliar with Friends of Science, this is a coal-funded group that has already had a good share of UCP access. pressprogress.ca/ucp-mla-announ…
A group so challenged by its relationship with reality and truth that it is being censored by Facebook. FACEBOOK!
My birthday is tomorrow (I'll deny it if you tell anyone), so: can we gather up and demand that @CDNEnergyCentre take this post down? And if it doesn't, then maybe we report it to Facebook?
Side note: the @CDNEnergyCentre post also makes a puzzling point of noting that "most rich nations" have decreased GHG emissions since the mid-1970s. I'm super-curious what their point is.
It's the most factual part of their post. E.g., Germany, France and UK have, indeed, all made progress in decarbonizing while growing their economies considerably.
So, it makes the point that not only should the wealthiest countries — who have been the largest historical contributors to driving climate change — reduce emissions, they can.
But what message is this sending when Canada's emissions have risen 43% over the same time period?
Alberta's have risen 58% (100 Mt) since 1990 (publications.gc.ca/collections/co… Table 2-2)
Upstream Oil & Gas emissions in Canada have doubled since 1990, up 85 Mt (Ibid., Table 2-12), more than France's reduction since 1990.
So, WHAT IS YOUR POINT, @CDNEnergyCentre? It doesn't seem like a message that supports your mission. So, you might want to take the post down before your global audience notices. #ableg #abpoli
