All of us on the frontlines - nurses, infection prevention & control teams, lab techs, doctors, everyone - are doing everything we can.
🧵
We are taking this risk despite still not having the tools we need to do our job safely. Yet everyone still shows up.
Tens of thousands have fallen ill.
Hundreds of us have died.
But we always show up.
To treat the sick.
To battle this virus.
But we are alone.
We don’t have the help and support we need.
We need more PPE. We need more testing. All over this country.
Without it, people are dying. More will die.
There is absolutely NO reason why the wealthiest country in the world & the most expensive healthcare system on the globe can’t handle this crisis.
Others have done it. We are an outlier.
And because of that, people are dying.
We are heartbroken.
Because everyone on the frontlines knows we know we can do better.
We know this virus need not leave such destruction in its wake.
We watch as this virus spirals out of control as this administration pretends it’s all under control.
To do that multiple times a shift.
To know that it doesn’t have to be this way.
None of us will ever forget.
Our response didn’t need to be an abject failure, on every level.
But it is.
This administration has undermined public health at every step.
This administration failed to respond at the outset.
This administration fails to support us now.
Thankfully, most will recover.
But many will not.
Many will survive and suffer long term complications.
And many will die.
Because we failed.
Everyone on the frontline knows it’s didn’t have to be like this. But we can only do so much.
We need support from above.
We need more testing. We need more PPE. We need clearer public health messaging, not partisan positioning.
But we’re alone.
And speak out.
And push this administration to realize that it is failing healthcare workers.
And that it is failing all of us in this country.
Because we deserve better. We all deserve better.
We will do everything we can, for our friends, our families, and our communities.
And we will always know that we could do more, if only we had the support we need.
Again, I apologize. Because you deserve better. We all deserve better.
