"The Speaker may be elected, in such manner as Parliament may from time to time decide, either from among the Members of Parliament who are neither Ministers nor Parliamentary Secretaries or **from among persons who are not Members of Parliament**"
Perhaps in the spirit of non-partisan, fairly distributed opinions in our hallowed halls of people ruling and policy making, we should have a NEUTRAL person conducting business.
#Google#Pixel3XL phone continuous restarting issue - a thread. I've had this phone since last March. A few months ago it suddenly restarted and kept on rebooting. I managed to get to a bootup screen but couldn't pick an option because it kept restarting every few seconds.
So I pulled out my SIM card, plugged it into my previous phone, an iPhone 6S, downloaded the necessary chat apps and other setup stuff while the Pixel kept rebooting. I found out where the SG service centre was - Aperia Level 2 - and made my way there.
At the centre, I was told nothing much could be done. At one point the attendant told me the phone needed to go back to Google and it would cost about $500. Later someone managed a factory reset, wiping out my data. I paid a $48 service fee, went home and reinstalled my apps.
Saw an elderly man making a face out of twigs. Pretty amazing.
There are many ways to interpret this content I captured. I'd like express 3 of them. 1) We should take the time to notice our surroundings. People, places, things, nature. Some remain the same, others change in moments, others in decades. Appreciate and recognise change.
2) Art is anything that makes you feel something. The Mona Lisa, a TikTok video, graffiti, a symphony, a sandcastle, a face made from twigs. Nature is art - symmetry in plants, melodious birdsong, glorious sunsets. We merely need to allow ourselves to feel and be inspired.
Been listening to Moby's current (new) album All Visible Objects quite a bit lately. Don't quite recall much of music post-Porcelain era but Pete Tong played a remix of My Only Love some weeks ago and I was re-intrigued.
A good mix of repetitive electronic beats and samples, evocative vocals and distinctive arrangements. I think it's a pretty clever set of tracks. Notable ones 1. My Only Love, ethereal despondent singing, dramatic pauses and crescendoes.
2. Power Is Taken, seems perfect for the current wave of protests, with the "fight against the oppressors" lyrics and police siren + Faithless' Salva Mea-esque synth.
So firstly look at the stats for this CNA tweet. 7 times more retweets than likes. And 90% of those retweets have comments. So yeah hot button has been pressed. S
Secondly, since PSC scholars will end up in the public service serving all walks and rungs of Singapore society, can PSC declare each scholarship awardee's family's socioeconomic status to ascertain if these kids can resonate with all classes?
Thirdly, is anyone following up on what these kids will study and how they will use their degrees to help the public service? Since they'll float around different ministries, shouldn't they all get MBAs related to government administration?
#GE2020 A friend asked in a group chat - Do you agree with this statement: "Just vote opposition. Don’t care which one."
I replied - "It's a sad situation when people end up making statements like that. It means we are desperate, perhaps no longer in control." /1
"Or we long for change we know inside may never come, but hold on to the tiniest glimmer of hope that we can make a change." /2
This is what's happened to our country - the oldies and boomers who appreciate the regime, plan and system of old that's brought this fishing village into the space age, and want to keep the status quo for fear of things going bad. /3
Just caught the @wpsg SENGKANG GRC broadcast. They touched on a some vote swinging issues:
- young parents and their woes (so many in Anchorvale, Fernvale), issues like childcare, and being sandwiched raising kids and looking after parents /1
- lack of neighbourhood social spaces, an issue I raised in a letter to ST in 2011 and saw my PAP MP about (to a fruitless end)
- basic infra to cater to bike and PMD riders (so many delivery riders in Sengkang) /2
- support for full-time caregivers/homemakers and recognition of their contributions
- providing support for less popular schools /3
