I made myself take a lot of photos of the cats today, but you won't be seeing them for some time because I have a queue to catch up on. So I give you some experiments that I took using a laser pointer and a keyboard.
Later today I am going to Huntington Beach. Yes, I know this is taking my life into my hands given the hostility the citizens of that town have against masks. I hope to have educated myself in the use of my new telephoto lens to use at Gold's Chica.

I don't know what to expect. I am leading a hike in the Bolsa Chica marshlands. The description clearly states that masks and social distancing are required. I expect that the holders will follow the rules but I have no control over other walkers.
The last time I tried to lead this hike, I had a participant tell me that wearing a mask while hiking would cause her to suffocate. Bullshit, I said, reminding her that doctors and nurses wore masks all day without ill effect.
All this misinformation makes it more dangerous for me.
Though many of the leaders expect social distancing, some don't. I saw a photograph of a group of forty hikers, none of whom were wearing masks and none of whom were social distancing. These leaders want the big numbers...

...whatever the cost. I opt for smaller groups of no more than twelve which allows for social distancing. Plus we bring extra masks for those who might "forget" theirs. Maybe the tension headache that has tormented me these past few days...
...arises from my expectation of conflict. I will wear a mask that I can drop down to my neck when I am not within range of other people and pull up when I am. Maybe I can set an example for others who are frustrated with paper masks that keep slipping of their ears.
Tomorrow I am called upon to show courage and leadership in a town that has neither.
