[Thread] Leicester 0 vs 2 Man Utd - Analysis

Build-up:
United use a 3-3-3-1 to build up that shits into 2-4-3-1 mid-block in Leicester's half. #mufc
Leicester City shape:
5-3-2 out of possession
3-1-4-2 then later 3-1-4-1-1 (Iheanacho plays off Vardy). #mufc #lcfc
Out of possession: Leicester looking to create a 3v3 with United's midfield. A similar idea to West ham. No time for Pogba and Bruno on the ball so Matic is Forced wide.
Tielemans pushes up on Matic as you can see in the picture. #MUFC
In possession: Leicester midfield create 3-man shield that drags United's mid up the pitch to create space for Vardy & Iheancho to receive long balls from WBs or GK.

This was not really successful for them as both United's CBs won their headers & Was picked 2nd balls. #MUFC
Leicester used a trigger press system, which only happens near when United has possession near their box. 2STs press CBs and 1 Was press a FB depending on which side the ball is on. Midfield pushes up to press Pogba and Matic. #MUFC
After the Crystal Palace, West Ham and Chelsea games, it was clear teams prefer United to play on the flanks than the centre.

Solskjaer used interesting techniques to compact that. #MUFC
1st technique

- Williams was switched to inverted FB often in the game.
- Bruno slotted as an inside forward
- Rashford pushed out wide more.
- Or drop Rash into WB position and create using long balls.

Reason: Creativity is not on FB anymore. #MUFC
- Bruno drifts to the flanks more to create the triangles instead of staying b/w the lines.

2nd technique

- Greenwood drops into midfield/ half space close Choudhury to create 2v1 for Choudhury making space for Lindelof to move forwards and pick runs with long balls. #MUFC
3rd technique.

- Push Rashford and Greenwood out wide inside of in half spaces to stop congesting play in the centre.
- Look at Rashford and Greenwood's positions. #MUFC
2nd half:
- United changed into a more aggressive press. (6-man pressing system) #MUFC
As united committed more bodies to press, Leicester WBs pushed higher as more space was a valuable to create a 2v1 vs United's FBs
- Also Lei midfield tucked with their 3CBs to eave wide space for Iheanacho/Perez to receive & link up with Vardy. #MUFC
- This left more space for Leicester's WBs to ping ball over the midfield.
- Rodgers placed Iheancho behind Vardy in 1-1 from a 2.
- Ihenacho receives in spaces & lays off to Vardy.
- A turnover happens, Tielemans would join the attack. To play in a 3-man lay off 1-1-1. #MUFC
In the 1st half: Both teams seemed more concerned about conceding than scoring.
In the 2nd: Both teams went for it. #LCFC in a more counter-attacking way than #MUFC. However, United's press was successful on 2 occasion to force an error of #LCFC's GK, Ndidi & CBs.

End. #MUFC
A special mention: Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic's work rate in this game have gone unnoticed. I've not seen PP contest for every ball so hard for a long time. Usually, the game is too easy for him or it just passes him by. #MUFC
