@beisgovuk #COVID19 secure workplace guidance is excellent for which @AlokSharma_RDG should be so proud BUT
It seems Ministers in other departments who are complaining to journalists like @MrHarryCole @johnestevens @shjfrench about working from home have not read the guidance cc @dsmitheconomics @csgmoore @jburnmurdoch
Offices are required to apply 2m social distancing as there is no track and trace responsibility
This means in most offices you lose 50% of desks and potentially 70%
Desks are not actually the constraint because lift capacity depending on size of lifts will be 4 people, 2 people or 1 person Normally 4 person will have circa 12 at 9am arrival time
Hence those employers who only lose 50% of desks will be constrained by lift capacity to 75% of 50% ie no more than 40% of normal capacity
You need to have an 8 person meeting room for a 2 person meeting at 2m social distance or 150-180 person room (theatre style) for a 30 person meeting
Collaboration space all needs to be closed off
Most employers will mandate face covers in lifts/toilets
employers will not allow boss and deputy to meet face to face due to risk of all ending up in isolation
Ditto cannot bring team together for same reason Team meetings will have to be virtual
Temperature checks unless mandated to be done at home before travelling will delay arrival process
Public transport constraints very significant For example @TfL has 25% capacity at 1m social distancing and 20% at 2m
The nature of all of this means that it is hardly surprising that where a role can be performed as effectively at home employers and employees are adopting this approach
