Time for a few thoughts on EASA etc @DavidHenigUK @Usherwood @pmdfoster thanks for stimulating my thinking Ditto @RishiSunak for describing himself as an FD and @BorisJohnson as a CEO
Four reasons for EASA decision (if it really was)
1) UK Government want to make gap with EU as wide as possible before public realise consequence to make a future Association Agreement harder
2) want to portray any future alignment suggestions by say Starmer/Nandy as being a recipe for immigration
3) desperate to set up Anglosphere so if in doubt align with US - hence Boeing good/Airbus bad
4) think red wall will really love Government acting with a fuck business agenda
5) Government actually don’t understand regulation and think mercantile life still exists - we are British and can just say are safety standards are as good
6) Government believes that loss of EU exports can be replaced by other trade deals so actually WTO fine
7) believe that given German cars EU will give way in negotiations and we can then force them on our terms to accept that UK can participate in agencies that we want to (with seat at the table/veto)
8) think that given UK has many employees working at EASA we can ... the EU by withdrawing British nationals
9) believe UK market important enough that if we become isolated/hard to export to EU manufacturers will set up production facilities in UK
10) Ministers have not read any advice - if Singham @iealondon think it is fine it must be
11) Ministers don’t want to hear about trade offs - why can’t you have a win/win for UK
12) Believe that EU is a failing project and way forward is bilateral arrangements with European countries
13) Believe that tariffs punish manufacturers rather than consumers
14) are scared of ERG members over Huawei and therefore want to look very tough with EU by winding up what were Remainers
15) fear pressure to join @EFTA4UK so want to do anything to make this harder
16) think future in UK is no manufacturing so why worry
17) UK in culture war so anything that would be praised by 48% is wrong
18) think EU would see EASA request as cherry picking an addition to CETA
Other reasons for ideological idiocy appreciated @rolandmcs @baghwallah @WEAYL @hpfarrell @GusSaggu @TheScepticIsle @colinelves
