Do you want a politician standing over you on the operating table giving your doctor suggestions? We didn’t think so! But that’s what politicians in Nebraska are effectively doing to abortion right now with LB814 which would ban D&E abortions. journalstar.com/legislature/in…
D&E abortions are a common (and safe) second trimester abortion procedure. States constantly try to ban it and stigmatize it by using incendiary, medically incorrect terms like “dismemberment abortion.” #AbortionIsEssential
They’ll do anything to stigmatize abortion, including filling this bill with nonsense phrases like “living unborn child.” Boom, they’ve established personhood! Then they drop the word “kill” five times. nebraskalegislature.gov/FloorDocs/106/…
They're trying to get anti-abortion propaganda on the record! They want this safe medical procedure to seem dangerous. But the bill boils down to what we said up top: politicians want to make YOUR medical decisions for you, and that’s scary and unacceptable. #AbortionAF
Normally, logic prevails and these D&E bans get ruled unconstitutional. But not before article after article gets written with scare-words like “kill” and “dismemberment,” to change how we talk about (SAY IT AGAIN LOUDER) a Safe Medical Procedure.
Oh! Another gross part of this Nebraska bill is that it allows sperm-givers to sue doctors for civil damages. Don’t worry, they amended it to say the sperm-giver had to be MARRIED to the person getting an abortion. These bills are so old-timey and patronizing!
Clinics tell us every day about sidewalk screamers harassing their patients. Cruel and dangerous bills like this one only embolden the anti-abortion hate mob. That’s why we’ve got to work every day to destigmatize abortion! #AbortionAF

For #My40Days, let’s talk about MINDFULNESS about how we discuss abortion with friends, people who've had abortions, your aunt Linda, your dentist, and so on. Let’s start with a big one: why we’ve (mostly) stopped saying “pro-choice.”
We are ALL about letting people have agency over their decisions. So yes, naturally, “pro-choice” works well for that. #My40Days
But we also have to think about who “pro-choice” leaves out. The healthcare system and the WORLD are effed up and create all kinds of barriers for people who want to be parents. So for some people maybe it’s not a “choice” to have an abortion so much as a necessity. #My40Days
#RBG taught us to stand up to sexist ghouls. Now that she's gone, misogynists are twirling their gross mustaches, gearing up to replace her legacy with an anti-abortion extremist!
Said anti-abortion ghouls have started their crusade with a nationwide clinic troll-a-thon called "40 Days for Life." #My40Days
In this annual event, hordes of uninvited Catholic hatesplainers "stand guard" outside of abortion clinics for 40 days and 40 nights. Really, it's just stalking. #My40Days
Badass of the day: Shirley Chisholm! Today is the 49th anniversary of Chisholm entering the Democratic primary, making her the first Black woman to run for president of these United States.
When she ran for Congress, her slogan was “Unbought and unbossed.” She also spoke truth to power when she said, “If you don’t have a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.”
When she was elected to Congress — also the first Black woman to do that — they tried to hide her on the ag committee, which took her away from working for the people who actually elected her. Still she rose.
Although she was obstructed by the head of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (fuck you forever, Scott Lloyd and your creepy period tracking), she did eventually receive her abortion with the help of the @ACLU, activists, and @JanesDueProcess.
So today we thought we’d tweet out her statement from the time as a reminder of why we fight so hard for everyone to get the abortion care they need:
