We often see people Comparing services of Public Sector Bank with Private Sector Banks.

But,shouldn’t we consider the level playing field before we compare.

Let’s take an example of Leaders from both PSBs and PVBs i.e. SBI and HDFC Bank and see where they stands.1/n

SBI is serving 44.89cr Customer with work force of 2,49,448, which means on an average one SBI employees serves atleast 1800 customers.

At the same time, HDFC Bank is having 1,04,154 employees to serve just 4cr customers, average 384 customers per employee. 2/n

So, PSBs staff have alsmost 5times more work pressure than Pvt Bank employees.

Now one can understand, why there is difference in service being provided by PSBs and Pvt Banks.

Lets Compare Branch wise Customer and Employees

SBI:
Total Branches: 22,141
Avg. Emp./Branch: 11.26
Customer/Branch: 20,275

HDFC Bank:
Total Branches: 5,314
Avg. Emp./Branch: 19.59
Customer/Branch: 7,527

Data itself is self explanatory. PSBs have acute shortage of staff. 4/n

If you expect a service like HDFC, you must ask Gov and SBI to recruit at least 9,19,562 more employees, which will give SBI a level playing field to compete with its peers.

If you wanna talk about only services and not about staff shortage, then its hypocrisy. 5/n

PSBs have potential to perform far better than their private competitors, but one Need to understand that Social Banking and Commercial Banking can’t go hand in hand.

PSBs needs autonomy to perform with the existing infrastructure and staffs, which we never get. 6/n

If Gov just want PSBs to make profit, let us allow to function like Pvt Banks. Allow us to charge like Pvt Banks. But, that’s not possible in a country where more than 22% population lives below poverty line.
