I live in Delhi and I have just recovered from #Covid_19!

I am a 30-year old male with no underlying health conditions. Just a few extra kilos, but hey, who in Delhi doesn’t have that. And still it took me 23 days to start feeling normal again!

A thread of my struggle..

(1/n)
I work in an MNC in Gurgaon, and I have been working from home since 19th March. I rarely went out during this time and when I did for groceries or pharmacy, I took all the precautions. So, if the virus can reach me, it can reach anyone.

(2/n)
This is also an indication of how widespread the community transmission is currently in Delhi. But, I will not make this post political and just narrate my experience.

In continuing with my info collation on what needs to be done when once you developed #COVID19, here is a #Thread on the importance of Asha workers. Govt is extensively using Asha workers as the frontline in the COVID battle. #CoronaWarriors
My introduction to them began on a day in the April first week, when we reported first positive in my locality, couple of streets away. My entire area was cordoned off. We were asked to stay completely indoors until further instructions. #COVID19 #CoronaWarriors
Asha workers came to our building to do a survey, they asked us how many people lived here, their names and numbers, they made a special note of aged people and children. deccanherald.com/state/mangalur…

His name is Judhisthira Sahoo, aged about 75 years, blind since birth, and disowned by his brothers when their parents passed away. Then he had joined a blind school to teach students and make some money to survive. [Source: @Bapun] #CoronaWarriors
Today he went to a @TheOfficialSBI branch & asked the cashier to help him to withdraw 1,01,000 rupees from his account. Once the cashier handed over the amount, he asked someone to take him to the manager's cabin.
His words to the manager were, 'When I was disowned by brothers, some nice people in the society ensured my survival. And now they all are in problem due to this pandemic. Please send this One lac and One thousand rupees to CM's #reliefpackage.'

On a tweet-spree, sharing my 2-cent thoughts after 2 months of #COVID duty work:
🔸️ Different patient, different body response - management algorithm can guide you, but individualized care is a must
🔸️Organ systems works hand-in-hand; Nutrition is just as important as ventilation, circulation, etc
🔸️Management is evolving (in a matter of hours); what you know now might not be applicable tomorrow. Keep yourself updated.
🔸️Giving medications just so we have something to give, can be worse than not giving anything at all. #EvidenceBasedMedicine
🔸️Team work goes a long way - ask HELP, be it clinical dilemna or handy ward work. After all, We're on the same boat🛶

2/ "When we went to distribute the ration kits, we discovered that the young ones had nothing to eat. They really needed milk," says Zeeshan Javid of Bengaluru, who joined hands with his cousins Zufishan Pasha and Shehzar Sheriff to initiate 'Mission Milk'.
3/ Under this, volunteers distribute milk packets to underprivileged kids whose families cannot afford this vital nutrient. What started with just 60 litres of milk, has now evolved into a 400-litre a day operation.

When Modi announced #lockdownindia & invoked Mythology (Mahabharat war of 18 days) to claim that fighting against Coronavirus will take 21 days, did he believe himself? No.

Was it actually insensitivity? Three among these are approved by @UPGovt for non #COVIDー19 cases. This is more because of the scare of events that follow discovery of a +ve patient having crossed path in a pvt setup. Pvt sector should be encouraged, not scared in this crisis Image
Confusion described here visible in reaction of administration to discovery of a #COVIDー19 case in pvt hospital. The center may be sealed, all staff may be quarantined in a remote school without even water and clean toilets. Or there may be just sanitization. Confusion prevails Image
Unfortunately, @MoHFW_INDIA guidelines spread more as warning, less as help. I wish @PMOIndia ensures mathematical flow chart about SOP for pvt sector. Everyone should know the risk from his action, and how to manage it. Till then innocent lives might continue to be lost.

My biggest challenge is to ensure that affected people are treated with compassion, and not stigmatized. - Health Minister @drharshvardhan

Let us take special care in ensuring that we empathize with and provide support to people and families infected with #COVID19.

1/n 🧵
We need to reach out to those people who are afraid to come forward & seek #COVID19 treatment because of the stigma we have attached. Delayed treatment due to the stigma & fear is costing us precious lives.

How to defeat #Stigma in the #FightAgainstCoronavirus?

1. They are people, not victims/cases

2. Don't disclose info about affected people

3. Rely on authentic sources (@MoHFW_INDIA /@WHO etc)

4. Share positive stories

Writing in @NewIndianXpress New Indian Express on #WorldHealthDay, @Experiential_Dr @netshrink & I raise concerns about the use of the war metaphor for the #COVID19 response. The harm this war symbolism does to health professionals is being overlooked.
newindianexpress.com/opinions/2020/…
Equating the pandemic response to a war equates India’s healthcare workforce to members of the country’s Armed Forces. The same kind of stoicism and public silence that characterises our Armed Forces is now expected of physicians, nurses, CHWs and allied healthcare personnel.
The result is Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) are being subjected to expectations of heroism and supreme sacrifice.

The true strength of a society is seen during a crisis.

From today, I will be sharing inspiring stories of #CoronaWarriors who are doing exceptional work in this #FightAgainstCOVID19 in the city of #Ahmedabad

These are individuals or organisations doing selfless service. 👍👍
The first story is about #BAPS, the Swaminarayan Sect, its sadhus & volunteers

They have been supplying fresh vegetables to more than 1000 poor families daily.

The entire work is planned & executed in a highly professional manner
Today mrng, I had the opportunity to visit the Swaminarayan Temple at Shahibaugh, Ahmedabad

It was a privilege to meet the people doing this selfless service

Thank you #BAPS & Pujya Brahmvihari Swamiji for responding so well to my appeal

In Gorakhpur, due to lockdown, when getting Chai also became almost impossible, Sangh Swayamsewaks distributed not even Chai but masks & food to #CoronaWarriors of @Uppolice. Food was also distributed at many bus stands for hungry people. #NationFirstForRSS
In Gorakhnath Hospital, one time meal for everyone is being provided by #SewaBharti. Migrant laborers going to other cities without food were provided food packets by #Sangh.
