Ever see something neat that barely anyone talks about? You know people have it, so you wonder why it hasn't been available, but don't want to shout into the void? And you realize you gotta do it yourself?
If you're wondering about II: Konami's Shanghai branch ported it in 2003 with hi-res sprites. Chinese only. It's not really on my radar since it's findable, but scans of the official packaging would be nice (L: someone's copy with the Chinese ver. of 1, which I haven't found)
Today: Tokimeki Memorial Taisen Puzzle Dama, the hit arcade game now on your desktop! And yes, screen savers!! archive.org/details/Tokipa…
Frontier Brain, a rare original PC title from Konami, but not a super original idea: a mech programming/battle sim that's basically their version of Carnage Heart. Wonder if any former CH staff were involved though. WARNING: NO SCREEN SAVERS!!! archive.org/details/Fronti…
The developer (based on the splash screen anyway) was "MTS." who I don't think I've seen in anything before so that's partly why I wonder if they came off CH
Powerpro '96! Released in (checks notes) 1997! OK well, this is one of few Win ports of an SFC/SNES game (many were based on Mega Drive versions). Plus if you love seeing SNES emulation in HD widescreen then you'll love, uh... one baseball game in 640x480 archive.org/details/Powerp…
Polyco Gal, a sort-of-game more in line with contemporary hits like Petz, only you monitor the life of a schoolgirl. Also an early example of Mine Yoshizaki working with Konami (e.g., the Twinbee manga before this, Otomedius later) archive.org/details/Polyco…
It's a twofer! Tokimeki Memorial Typing 1 & 2. The first one is like most typing games (type word good! Girl like!) but the second integrates typing fragments of dialogue as if you're playing a real Tokimemo!

Ending this week of Konami with Eisei Meijin, their shogi game that has more numbered entries than Gradius AHEM ANYWAY archive.org/details/EiseiM…
A day after I called Vandal Hearts "elusive," it showed up! This isn't as unique as Win95 Suikoden; it's a straight port w/ emu-ish options (resolution, filtering) and mouse control but still rules
🀄️Mahjong Master, another Nintendo 64 transplant with a lot of content. Didn't get the box with this, but it took its sweet time to show up, so whaddyagonnado archive.org/details/Mahjon…
Not my doing but I have a good update: someone has recently been putting up lots of Chinese-language PC games, including Suikoden and the aforementioned Suikoden II:
Reviving long dead ultra-connected card-based Japanese arcade games isn't the most popular preservation activity, but luckily Konami put out a decent PC demo of one of theirs, 2002's Monster Gate II: archive.org/details/Monste…
In what is probably the best bookend to this whole endeavor, here is the biggest of the voids in Konami PC history, filled: Tokimeki Memorial: Oshiete Your Heart, the seldom-seen Windows version of the also-seldom-seen arcade game. archive.org/details/Tokime…

I had to play Yu-Gi-Oh Dungeondice Monsters to try and jog my memory of this GBA game I played a lot that *did* involve dungeons but *may* have involved dice and *possibly* monsters but it didn't really help and I had to go down the list of all Japanese releases
all I remembered was the characters were kind of egg-shaped
anyway it was Monster Gate, also by Konami, a Mystery Dungeonlike based on a medal game
So yeah, the release of My Summer Vacation/ぼくのなつやすみ turns 20 this week, unbelievably. Fair to say it's still my favorite video game. It even helped get me started in game journalism, among other things. If you know me, you know the story: scroll.vg/issues/10
I didn't even know about Boku no Natsuyasumi until a few months later, in a sidebar piece in this issue of the Tokyopop magazine. Arguably the only good thing Tokyopop ever did (look at least Stu didn't write the article)
