ABRUPTION OF PLACENTA
My wife went to the market yesterda
The bike she took had an accident but luckily she wasn't injured
She however said the baby was not moving as usual
I rushed to bring her to hospital this morning
Doctor, I did not have any injury she said

Abruption of placenta happens when there is premature separation of the placenta that nourishes the baby from the womb

It can happen following injury/accident.
Unfortunately the woman was right, the placenta had separated, sadly the baby died.
They were devastated
Other things that can cause this separation includes high blood pressure, smoking, drug abuse etc.

Please if any pregnant woman has any form of physical trauma/accident, go to the hospital immediately, this may save the lives of both mother &/child.

This is one of the most disheartening experiences for any intending parent

What to do if SCAN shows the baby has abnormalities
1.Take a deep breath

2.Take result to tertiary hospitals

3. Seek 2nd/3rd opinion

5. Ask what can be done in pregnancy/immediately after birth and if it is compatible with life.

6. Both partners should try ask questions within their families, it may be inherited.
7. Do not blame/neglect yourself,
Continue to attend antenatal

8.Try and do all requested tests in the pregnancy to help identify cause.

9. Talk to someone about it; family, good friends, therapist, psychologist to help process& make decisions it if need be

Ectopic Pregnancy is a life threatening EMERGENCY

The expected home of a fertilized egg that becomes a baby is the womb

For different reasons,some of these fertilized eggs(babies) never make it to the womb

Any pregnancy outside the womb is an ECTOPIC

In ectopics, pregnancy can stay in the woman's tube, ovaries, lining of/within any part of the tummy etc

As the pregnancy grows, it becomes bigger than the space it is occupying & can rupture/burst leading the severe blood loss or death of the women in some cases.

This is why EARLY Ultrasound scan is a MUST for every pregnant woman so the location of pregnancy can be confirmed.
