Do you know so-called "rationalists" & so-called "environmentalists" who scream that let's celebrate eco-friendly #Ganeshotsav by using paper-pulp Ganeshmurti is actually harmful to environment?

In 2011, the then @INCIndia led Maharashtra govt. issued a GR asking to use paper pulp Ganesh idols which are eco-friendly

Upon that, Shri. Shivaji Vatkar of @HinduJagrutiOrg filed an RTI to understand consequences of immersing such idols in water.

.@HinduJagrutiOrg's Shri. Vatkar consulted different environmental organizations in this connection.

In March 2016, Institute of Chemical Technology after doing experiments clearly stated- "10 kg of idol has potential to pollute at least 1000 lit of water."

Environmental Protection Research Foundation from Sangli, Maharashtra also performed experiments and came to the same conclusion. (Copy attached)

Now let's see what @control_board stated for RTI filed. Board stated - paper pulp Ganesh idols cause water pollution.

Whereas environment Dept. of @mygovMaha had issued the GR promoting use of paper pulp Ganesh idols by stating it as eco-friendly. (Refer 2nd tweet)

With all this data gathered by years of dedication to this environmental cause, Shri. Vatkar of @HinduJagrutiOrg moved to National Green Tribunal (NGT), (Western Zone) bench, Pune.

Attached judgement of NGT (pages 1,2) dated September 30, 2016 !

National Green Tribunal has stated in its 2016 judgement that- "...State (@mygovMaha & @control_board) is promoting use of paper mache/paper pulp idols - water pollutants in casual manner without undertaking any study..."

It further quotes, "...promotion of such paper made idols by the state without proper study will not only increase water pollution, but would erode public faith in the state gradually."
