THREAD: We are beginning a #factchecking audit of websites that claim to offer info and advice on #homeed in Scotland. There are only two sites we would recommend that are accurate and up to date: our own scothomed.co.uk (of course!) & @HomeEdScotland
We've contacted @scotgov's mygov.scot repeatedly to correct errors/update #homeed content but no response. They can't even get terminology right & link to inactive/discredited orgs mygov.scot/home-schooling/ We expect better of govt sites than to mislead the public 👎
@HomeEdScotland has published a critique of the mygov.scot page here in the first of what will probably be an extended series 'Factchecking official #homeed sites' homeeducationscotland.org.uk/2020/08/05/fac…

The School Run site sets out the law and guidance accurately using correct terminology (we could be picky but compared to the horrors above... #bravo) 👏👏theschoolrun.com/home-education… #homed #scotland
The Education Scotland site lays out the law and guidance but lacks links to relevant *active* #homeed orgs & support groups #outdated education.gov.scot/parentzone/my-…
Then we find the once respected Schoolhouse that has been moribund for several years now. 'News' link has one entry in 2 years, rest is outdated. Previous website content was erased for no apparent reason & no redirects applied. Oh, and the site is insecure. 👎👎👎
We have been made aware of complaints to @ScotCharityReg that Schoolhouse - a national membership org - declines new members unless they agree to volunteer (in Dundee) which does not sound charitable, constitutional or compliant with equality law.
If you find more #homeed howlers, do let us know and we'll call them out. Time to resurrect our #TalkingTotalTosh awards?
