3/6 In #Smyrna, Nureddin Pasha summoned the Greek archbishop #Chrysostomos of Smyrna and accused him of treason. Nureddin Pasha pushed him out of the residence and invited and incited a Turkish mob to deal with him. He was #lynched to death while a french observer documented it.
4/6 Nureddin led the Army into Smyrna and played a central role in the Smyrna massacres.4 days after he entered the city,eye witness Minnie Mills said"I saw with my own eyes a Turkish officer enter the house with small tins of benzine and in a few minutes the house was in flames"
5/6 a slogan "we threw the Greeks into the sea" is sometimes used,often interpreted as the Turkish military evicting the Greek army,but the images tell a story of its own. Approximately 100,000 to 400,000 Greek and Armenian refugees crammed the waterfront to escape from the fire.
