I had time after plain X-rays showed what was found to be a benign endochondroma. I researched how they diagnosed and treated. Determined plain MRI could tell them enough. Then surgery or watchful waiting. The nurse wanted to put IV in pre MRI. I refused,knew it meant Gad. 
Then I was lying on the stretcher and 6 different doctors came in to try to convince me to take it. I persisted and they did a plain MRI. follow up with my orthopedic oncologist who reassured me, it’s probably benign and yes, #gadolinium was Not necessary to determine that. 😎🙏🏼
