Next Dermatologist biopsied my left hand, my fingers all tattered,nails all growing straight through digit pads. Said I had OCD-skin picking. I said, I’m a slob, how could I have OCD? 🤦♀️ Nice guy. I wasn’t even thinking Gadolinium then.
Third Dermatologist was here. My stubborn thumb the last to heal.Nearly 2 years ago.I told him my suspicions about gadolinium. He said,He’d heard about Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis but I had normal kidney function. I gently persisted (the old nurse in me). He said It’s Possible.
He said, if it was I would be first at UVA to have it.Nothing to biopsy but he could have taken some of my thumb nail, hair sample and done electron microscopy. Now nearly healed with using bactroban ointment,Epsom salt scrubs, @Apollo_Neuro on repair and sleep cycles,stretching.

For newbies, I have had 9 Gadolinium injections in 7 years,mostly for #CombiRx study. This was my most recent 5 years ago. I started refusing Gadolinium. Neurologist was ok with refusing but skeptical 🤨
Present neurologist ok with no contrast.She listened politely,not necessarily convinced. I’m getting older now 62 and she thought age might lessen my exacerbations anyway. Offered me to be on a study going off DMT meds. I thanked her but no. I hadn’t had flare ups since starting.
I’m not sure when it was that I started to suspect Gadolinium. Or when I finally confronted my Doctors with firm conviction that I will Never take Gadolinium ever again. Thanks to friends in my worldwide support group and @Wagner_Nephro I persevere in my thoughts about Gad.
I can feel the panic in Neurology/Radiology People. What? No Gadolinium? How will we get such great pictures? How will we see active #MultipleSclerosis lesions? It would be like going backwards. Panic! 😲
My dear Doctor Panitch R.I.P. spoke to me once via a wall poster near MRI Waiting room. “Keep mind open” stood out. None of the doctors absolutely listened to me put the pieces together. What could I know about #Science ?Except I knew a lot about Me, and Science’s failures.Fin 😎
