After interviewing a lot of junior frontend dev's this year, here are some interview tips for #CodeNewbie's (Note: this is just one take on it, different companies work differently) #100DaysOfCode #freeCodeCamp

1) I couldn't care less if you learned to code at university, a boot camp, or sitting in a basement with your laptop. Knowing your stuff is the main thing.

2) Have a basic level of understanding of your chosen tech. E.g for frontend:

- HTML/CSS
- JavaScript/ES6 (variables, functions, arrays & higher order functions, objects, modules etc)
- A framework e.g React (state, props, function components, applying styles, rerendering etc)

3) Having a GitHub/Portfolio helps. Bring this up in the interview if not asked. Be prepared to answer questions on how/why you did things a certain way. Not all interviewers will look in-depth at your GitHub due to time etc

4) The coding test isn't designed to trip you up. Its to gauge how you think. Write down the steps you'd take, components you'd need, and the tests you'd need BEFORE writing any code. If you don't complete the test that's fine be able to talk through your answer. Ask questions

5) Passion/willingness to learn is good but companies are looking for someone who can fill a gap they have. Be confident and show them you CAN do the job

6) If you don't know something, say "I don't know". No one wants to listen to a candidate struggle through an answer. Being able to do this is a very strong trait to have

7) Be yourself. Don't use big fancy terms for the sake of it. Be confident but not cocky. If a candidates an ass, its an instant red X through the application regardless of how good they think they are

8) Interviews are a 2-way street. If you are getting bad vibes or didn't like some of the interview answers (e.g "our devs often have to work 80 hour weeks" etc) don't be afraid to walk away. There will be other jobs
