Prior to the 2016 elections, I was involved in some political activism mainly on FB. I was convinced we needed change of leadership in this country. However, 2 days to election day, I was in my college apartment, too broke to travel back to Ntungamo to vote. #UGDecides2021
The morning of the election day, I woke up feeling guilty that I was going to be an enabler of another term of among other things, a poor health and education sectors & human rights violations by M7's security organs. I called a friend and borrowed money. Around 11AM, I set off.
I reached my polling station at Buhanama P/S in Itojo 15 minutes before closure of voting. I remember just going straight to casting my vote because almost everyone had finished voting and waiting for the counting of votes. It was the first time to vote and I couldn't be prouder.
That evening M7 emerged winner at my polling station but that did not hurt. I was actually excited because I think there was progress. @kizzabesigye1 had got more votes than anyone expected. Previously, my home village was predominantly M7-loyal.
This gave me hope that my village folk had gotten their eyes open at long last. Without doubt, I am sure he will get lesser votes this coming election. You can't lie to people forever. The truth eventually reveals itself no matter how much you try to hide it.
So, fellow citizens, this 2021 election is another opportunity to have a go at changing this leadership. Well, I can't promise there won't be rigging and malpractices, but I can promise that you'll be satisfied that you did your part.
You will also have the right to stand up and criticize the leadership when they continue with their misuse of public funds among other problems. However, if you don't vote, I'm afraid you'll lose moral grounds to criticize the government.
Your vote is your capital, casting it is your decision to start a business. If you don't start, you'll never know what could have been & you'll live with regrets that, may be, your vote and that of others like you could actually have caused change. Your vote matters. You matter.
It is time to reclaim our country. It's time to finally start feeling like we actually belong here. It's time to make our MPs accountable for all their actions in the past 5 years. It's time to punish MPs that disrespected our opinion about the #AgeLimit debate. #UgVotes2021
Your vote is your power. I know many times (the Supreme Court agrees), ur vote & power have been disrespected by M7 & team's malpractices. However, the last thing you want to do is give up. If they're cheaters, let's beat them by knockout. Whatever the referee says won't matter.
