What a surprise. The Channel Nine poll on Andrews' performance is the latest poll to be hijacked. After steadily climbing for several days, it suddenly jumps a whopping 160,000 'no' votes this afternoon! #IStandWithDanAndrews #pollgate
Here's the figures for the last several days, on the left shows the jump, on the right shows relative to time.
It's harder to hijack a custom poll than it is to hijack a Twitter poll where you can buy votes off the shelf. In most cases a developer would be required and, presuming Channel 9 has security features in place, some sophisticated VPN work would be required.
It's possible that the surge was created by the poll going viral in with an audience sympathetic to those who wanted to flip the poll, but given the rhythmic incrementation on the 'no' votes this afternoon, it's possible this was another bot-driven hijack.
Just another reminder that there are people who are desperate to hijack these polls to create the impression that their view is the consensus, when it's not.
Just last night, Chris Kenny reported on The Age poll as if it were some kind of revelation that the tide had turned.
The final result of the poll, before it was hijacked, is consistent with many other polls relating to restrictions in Melbourne. Over to Channel 9 to see if they know more.
Update: Channel 9 appears to have taken down the poll. Here's the final timeline for yes/no votes:

The poll was "secretly done for the state Liberal Party leadership and handed to Herald Sun." It was conducted at the same time the Morgan poll recorded 70% support for Andrews.

Only 5 polled seats (all volatile marginals) were cherrypicked and given to HS. #ThisisNotJournalism Image
The data released to Herald Sun covered just 550 people (approx) selected in the following marginals only: Bayswater, Hawthorn, Monbulk, Mount Waverley and South Barwon.

No info is offered on how samples were developed. ImageImageImage
The company behind the poll, MediaReach, has a weak public track record, with a history of "favouring the sponsor for internal party polling."

@TheAge poll re support for #COVIDVIC19 lockdown extensions: Tracked 70% yes, 30% no and performed normally with votes trickling in. Then, yesterday, a sudden spike of 15,000 'no' votes occurred in a few seconds. Several more sudden spikes have been recorded. #IStandWithDan
I have tracked and recorded the sudden spikes, and have screenshots of how the poll progressed over time, with a number of sudden spikes demonstrating bot 'block votes' were purchased at least 4 times.
These two screen shots were captured 16 seconds apart, and captured a sudden spike of 'no' votes, only possible via a scripted bot 'block vote.'
