I had a chat with @thepatwalls yesterday.

It was our first time on a call - we've DM'd in the past but nothing crazy.

I wanted to highlight some of the topics that were brought up, because most of the conversation was about how hardly anyone talks about this stuff.

Thread 👇
🛣 Long term thinking & actions

So many people are only taking action when it benefits them right now. You're getting paid by the hour. Or you see the results instantly.

The most successful people are able to delay their success and keep building in silence. It compounds.
💰 Providing real value for others

Often we see that people are trying to build "cool things" and are obsessed with tech stacks and no-code apps.

The point of Indiehacking isn't to build apps.

It's to provide value for other people so you can get paid. Regardless of tech.
🔍 Double down on SEO

We don't understand why people aren't betting on SEO as a marketing channel. The potential is massive, and it's passive.

This relates back to long term thinking and actions. The results aren't instant, but there's massive potential.

Write great content.
✍️ The benefits of writing

A daily habit of writing can change your life. It turns you into a default creator instead of just being a consumer.

Words are the most easily distributable and impactful means of communication.

That's why I'm writing this in this thread.
⏳ Using your time effectively

People give themselves too much time to work, and don't dedicate time to important things in their life like relationships and rest.

Putting constraints on your time forces you to be more productive with that time.

Don't waste time, use it.
🌐 Our future

As "successful" Indiehackers, we're always looking to what's next.

It's important to think long term and be taking actions now that will pay off in 5-10 years.

For now, we're in the weeds and executing. But don't be surprised when we both create new things!

This is the blueprint I've followed to build my own business/income in ~4 years. This is how I learned to make websites + apps, learned SEO, learned how to write well, and how to grow my SaaS product.

👇
Get your time right by eliminating most entertainment and leisure.

Produce (work) more than you consume (watch/read/listen to entertainment).

Work intentionally, have fun intentionally, create a balance that you control. Free up a few (3-4) hours a day.
Use that new time to build new skills + knowledge by doing work for free for other people.

Do free work that helps save them time, make them money, or save them money (things that people will pay for).

Do a bit every day. Because it's free, there's less pressure to perform

Market 💹

The market you chose is the most important facet of your Indiehacker journey. It doesn't have to be the best market, it just has to be right for the thing you want to build.

Pick a market that is growing, has needs that are paid for, and has demand for your product.
Product 👚

Start with your MVP and iterate slowly and intentionally. Introduce features at a good clip, but don't sacrifice quality.

Do your testing. Ship excellence. Write your documentation. Design with the user in mind.

Your customers will trust you.

April was 🔥. Another month, another #openstartup report.

As of April 22, I officially make more money on the side then at my job. 🤯

More info: jmo.fyi/open

Things to focus on for April: Funnel tracking. More content. More features. Courses.
I did some content marketing efforts this month (my organic clicks were starting to dip).

I wrote two articles:

- closet.tools/poshmark-tips
- closet.tools/poshmark-30-mi…

The second one surprised me 👇
I wrote and published it just 5 days ago. I was targeting a *very easy* [0 ahrefs difficulty level] 480 searches/month keyword → "poshmark 30 minute method".

I've attached some screenshots of what happened.

Essentially, it ranked in the top 10 that SAME DAY. #3 today.
