A while back I wrote about how Trump and his media allies have really tried to make it seem like his "China ban" (not a ban) was unique (more than a dozen of countries did it before the US, and many more strict) and effective (virus was already here) mediamatters.org/coronavirus-co…
People who promoted things like travel restrictions acknowledged that it was a way to buy a *little* bit of time to come up with a larger response. Instead, the administration treated the restrictions *as* the response.
Okay, just checked, and 38 countries took action before or at the same time the U.S. travel restrictions on China were put in place.

Let's talk about how Tucker Carlson mangles other people's words to create a completely false, incendiary narrative. 1/
He did this back in April with something @SRuhle said. We wrote about it at @mmfa here: mediamatters.org/coronavirus-co…
A more recent example, from last month, has to do with a clip posted by @therecount. The clip, which was from an interview between @jmpalmieri and Hillary Clinton, included a section where Clinton is asked what she thinks Trump would do in the event of a Biden win.

I've been shouting into the void about this for the past couple of years. There's a certain segment of media that will see it as their duty to just amplify whatever he says and pretend like he's totally on the level.
Remember right before the 2018 midterms when Trump said "Hey, I'm going to give everyone a 10% tax cut!" and even though Congress wasn't even in session and there wasn't any sort of bill being considered, news outlets dutifully wrote stories about how Trump was cutting taxes?
But yeah, Trump is obviously going to have DOJ put its thumb on the scale right before the election.

Do you remember when Brian Kemp did this in Georgia? And then it turned out that it was based on... nothing at all? And then hey, he won his election. thehill.com/homenews/state…

There's one event that explains the GOP philosophy so perfectly that I can't stop thinking about:

In 2017, @daveweigel tweeted a photo of one of Trump's rallies, not realizing it'd been taken before T arrived. He was told as much and deleted it.

Trump demanded an apology. 1/3
And so, owning up to the mistake, @daveweigel apologized. 2/3
At which point Trump responded by going all "a ha! he admitted it!" and demanding that Dave be fired.

The point is that they make demands, then when demands are met, they they make more demands, using the meeting of the first demand as proof of... something. 3/3

The protests *are* “mostly peaceful.” That segment was about the massive contrast between daytime protests and nighttime escalations.
For the most part, media coverage has started to ignore the protests that don’t escalate, instead heaping attention on the ones that do.

Protests are legitimate. Protests are justified. Protests are a protected right that we should all defend.
You don’t hear much about the protests that don’t escalate. Even the CPD had to acknowledge that these are largely peaceful.

This video includes one of my favorite examples of right wing propaganda they trot out when trying to accuse Democrats of being violent: Eric Holder saying “we kick them.”

Let’s take a look at the actual context...
Holder was discussing voter suppression efforts and fighting back against them. But here’s the full quote (emphasis mine)
That was in 2018, right before the election, when Republicans were trying to run on the “Jobs Not Mobs” line. It’s the same thing they’re doing now. It’s propaganda.

It was BS then, it’s BS now.

I’m honestly baffled by the replies to this tweet. It’s just filled with people accusing CNN of trying to scare them and/or claiming this is all part of some elaborate plot to keep schools closed through November. Just... wtf is wrong with people?
We really have gotten to the point in our walled-off, siloed worlds of news consumption where some people simply refuse to process information that doesn’t confirm their preconceived beliefs.
It’s kind of the logical conclusion of media fragmentation and personalization. See: @elipariser’s “Filter Bubble” concept
