😬
HAS THIS GUY BEEN STUCK FLOATING FOR YEARS????
i remember being a pa on a shoot where i had to block off traffic for a major intersection. that's one part of the gig i do not miss
it's a meme, for posting online
if only polyamory existed

it's a contagion
oh!

oh diane
this space thing is really, really effective
HILARY SWANK???
i don't like this celebrity
the perils of business
oh shit is this the "todd has to actually grow up and face consequences" episode?
promoting the leaders of a strike is actually a classic union busting tactic. i'm impressed we're really going there
;_;
IT'S BECAUSE HE'S WHITE. THINGS JUST WORK OUT FOR HIM BECAUSE HE'S WHITE. HOLY SHIT
oh my GOD
oh this RULES
WOW
holy shit that was a good episode
there was a lot going on in that one, that really floored me

OH I SEE WHAT'S GOING ON HERE. OMG ARE GINA AND KELSEY GONNA BOND OVER HOW MUCH THEY WERE HURT BY BOJACK
;KJLASDFGLHJKGDFAHJKL; FUCK IT'S HIM
OH NOOOO
this was an episode of everyone being happy and in so doing slowly drawing the noose tighter around bojack's neck
WOW this season is good!!
oh good, here we go
we gonna hear from brecht next
god damn it I KNEW bojack had the trajectory of becoming a director
okay i absolutely would watch this version
AND NOT JUST BECAUSE I'M A GOAT
THIS PUN WAS MADE JUST FOR ME
i love it when people who make shows about film & film-making throw people like me a bone so we can pretend the years and tens of thousands of dollars spent on our film degrees were actually worth something
anyway hollyhock's far too powerful
OOF
hollyhock is a lesbian
owo what's this?
i'm sure this won't backfire at all
this is so much

PENNY
this show really has my writing process's number
ouch
i love when she snorts
fuck i really need to get back on my mood stabilizers
:(
harsh
god when this show experiments with style it goes HARD
no.
every fucking day
this is what dissociating feels like
oh this is so painful
fuck
☹️
wow this is. really personal. fuck.
diane gaining weight reminds me of i think season 2 of battlestar galactica, when lee adama gains a ton of weight and they put him in a fat suit and had his dad get mad at him for being lazy. i would say bojack has handled diane's situation with a TON more grace
a lot of details about that episode, like diane mostly writing from her bed, feel really genuine. this was clearly written from a place of experience and it's. really good? like between diane gaining weight and bojack having grey hair... idk. i like what this show is doing.
i like it when characters change over time. it's almost like this show is a commentary on the impossibility of the sitcom dream life
oh god damn it
hm
yeah
O O O O O O O O F
i think they took off the voice modulator that i SWEAR they had on pickles' voice up until now
yeah the personality he's exhibiting this episode is alarming
I LOVE PAIGE SINCLAIR
paige sinclair is a trans woman no i'm not taking questions
MISTER PEANUTBUTTER L;AJKDFGJKLAHKJLSDGLK
WHAT A FRAME
exactly like dim sum, but with white people food so it's more accessible
i'm so floored by the brilliance of these two. literally any other reporter stereotype would have been ABYSMAL to focus on. like i'm rooting against myself with these two, it REALLY helps you see both sides of this
like the reporter's side following the breadcrumbs, which we naturally want to root on, but it also recontextualizes bojack's behavior to someone who is bereft of context. would you really apologize for bojack if you read the highlights?
SHE'S SO GOOD
i can hear the cracks in his voice
the national face of depression
wow this is really painful
PRINCESS CAROLYN 😭😭😭😭😭😭
lol
oh my god her sister. i love paige sinclair. i am probably going to write fanfic about her because oh my god. oh my god. she's just too good
the fact that her sister talks so normally just shows how much the transatlantic accent is an affectation, which really syncs up with my personal belief that she's a trans woman
I'M ON TO SOMETHING HERE FELLAS
i love the casual disdain todd has for bojack
:(
god damn it bojack, you get one taste of fame again
oh no
😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬
oh you piece of shit
this is a tragic love story
this was just an excuse to make celebrity fursonas
these two are so cute
god we're just going straight to louis ck aren't we
omg her face the animation in this show is SO GOOD
WOAH
omg there he is there's the boy
goD TDAMN IT
oh good, vance wagoner's back
oh my god samantha bee, they didn't even have to change her name
fuck
OH HOW THE TURNS HAVE TABLED
JUDAH THINKS IN DIAGRAMS
😭😭😭😭😭
lol
😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬 oh god this is too real
god damn it mister peanutbutter
NO
it's her
wow we're REALLY going there
oh so he's. he's really doing this.
fuckin citizen kane fireplace
oh fuck you
omg diane
i really love maude
i think the trend is if you make there be a girl i will simply say "thank you"
the show
SHE'S A THOUSAND YEARS OLD AND STILL CUTTING THROATS
:'(
god damn it
2020
i really don't like seeing drunk bojack :(
holy shit this is so close to stuff i wrote in godfeels
i only note that because the mixed up jigsaws metaphor is really personal to me, and it's interesting seeing how it's used differently in other contexts. similar ideas exploring different territory
anyway this is happening
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
your life is about to start
oh no
ARE WE FINALLY GONNA LEARN THE CONTEXT FOR THE HELL BOJACK WAS PRESENT FOR A WOMAN PUSHING HER CHILD OUT A WINDOW
because that seems like a relevant detail to the current arc of the story
everyone eating the thing that killed them is not a good sign
WE'RE ENDING WITH BOJACK IN THE POOL TO FULFILL THE OPENING CREDITS WE'RE GONNA DO A SUNSET BOULEVARD THING
so we're doing sunset boulevard by way of all that jazz
wow this is just a survey of ethics
bojack distrustful of the up
HE SEES SECRETARIAT AS HIS DAD
and herb kazzaz basically just recapped matt fraction's reasons for not killing yourself
ACTUAL JUMP SCARE
this is a tragic love story
i hate being right
F U C K
here we go
stop saying smart things zach braff
oh god this is my nightmare
😭😭😭😭😭😭
oh god oh fuck this is so much
SCREAMING
. . . . .
goD DAMN IT
oh my god
lkjhasdfhgljk THE WHOLE THING WAS JUST A SETUP FOR THAT JOKE
YES GINA GET IT
get his ass
you can't be serious
HOLLYWOOB
rude dude and smug boy
god damn it todd
that's the todd experience
ouch
princess carolyn :'(
THE DELIVERY OF THIS LINE
wow
yayyyyy
that's. the only way to make it work.
yes
i'm having a hard time not screencapping every dialog exchange
[standing ovation]
wow, that did not end where i expected it to end.
it's gonna take me a while to process my thoughts, and maybe getting some sleep (it's 6am right now), but uh. yeah. easily one of the best shows i've seen, certainly among the best examinations of what fame does to people. their several all that jazz references are well earned.
bojack horseman is basically these two lines from homestuck explored over six seasons
it's really fascinating how the show starts as a parody of a sitcom and then slowly transforms into a pastiche of what the genre would look like if it showed how relationships work out in real life. if it showed the cycles of abuse and the specter of trauma
i'm so happy we didn't get some bullshit ending where bojack and diane get together. there's always this pressure in finales like, we gotta get all our ships in a row! but everyone went off and married other people. it shows how we just wander through each others' lives.
arguably the only one that feels a little forced is princess carolyn and judah. otherwise it's a very natural conclusion in that, like steven universe future, bojack horseman wants us to remember that life doesn't end til it ends. people make mistakes and either grow or don't.
yeah there's a lot to mull over. idk if i'm gonna do anything with it.
i love paige sinclair
THAT WAS THE VOICE OF BIRDGIRL FROM HARVEY BIRDMAN
holy shit they're ordering a birdgirl spin-off? did anyone even watch the revival?

oh hell the revival i totally forgot that was happening / already happened
i had very sad dreams about bojack horseman
i dreamed i was at a party with friends but my organs fell out into a river, like i collapsed into a million pieces lego-style. as i drifted away i heard my friends talking about their regrets, and i knew there was nothing i could do that would finish the open question of my life
i was a landmine for everyone i loved because i loved them, and as much as i tried i couldn't finish anything or fix anyone. people get to know me and they realize i'm faking it and then they drift away. and i'll never pick up all the pieces.
anyway. this show has given me a lot to think about
for those who haven't seen it, all that jazz is the best musical ever made and it's a HUGE influence on bojack horseman

so yeah, season 6 review: i'm glad i waited until now to finally finish this show, because there's so much that wouldn't have landed quite the same at any other point in my life. watching it all in such a short time was... perhaps not the best choice, but i don't regret it.
diane and bojack are so well-written. their arc together is such a realistic toxic friendship, with how they circle around each other warily. magnetically drawn to the chaos and comfort of another human as broken as you. someone you can love and hate equally.
as a series, i don't think the front end meshes perfectly with the back end. they do a REALLY good job of turning over the wacky hijinks and seeing their material repercussions, particularly after sarah lynn's death, and the weakest parts are where they walk back on that.
if i were still an academic i'd rave about how bojack horseman is a masterpiece of metamodern synthesis. instead i'll say it fucked me up and i'm not sure how it did what it did and i'm gonna be sorting through the debris in my brain for a while to come
i feel like the evolution of this show is very much a reaction to what was going on in politics between each season. in the future (assuming such a thing exists), folks will need a year-by-year history lessons to really get the full picture.
i bet there are already tons of undergrad essays doing exactly that

bojack horseman season 3 review thread BEGINS.

it's genuinely existentially VERY upsetting that bojack isn't in his own movie. this is a fascinating plot thread for a show about the fragility of screen-based identities

CHAZ (the capitol hill autonomous zone here in seattle) is an incomprehensible contradiction whose existence seems to have been willed into being through gumption and determination alone, and the result is something beautiful, fragile, and potentially world-changing.
yesterday, CHAZ was a ghost town whose existence seemed memetic at *best*. but even in the few hours we were there, we witnessed in real time protesters negotiating with city employees, forming committees, making plans to transform this into something real.
SPD's retreat from the precinct building seemed largely to be a trap, like they expected protesters to burn it down so they could manufacture their own private reichstag fire. instead folks seized the territory and invented CHAZ out of whole cloth.

it says a lot about how dense knives out is in terms of visual storytelling that i didn't even notice this obvious subjectivity between linda and walt's separate intro montages until the third viewing
of course the first we see of marta in a flashback she's *literally* framed with a halo
then there's the different named character introductions, which i'm gonna go through one by one in this thread. linda's is the first we get. note the distance between her and the center of the circle of knives.

a fascinating aspect of rick and morty is it's a show that seems to resent the fact that it exists and hates its audience for wanting to connect with it in any meaningful way.

if that were intentional, it would almost justify the show's existence.
there was an anarchic joy to r&m when it started, but the problem with subversive shows is that the longer they go on the more formulaic they become. and booooooooy howdy is r&m formulaic these days.
i keep watching because it has a genuine creativity that a lot of scifi tv lacks. its "everything is possible" premise leads to so many cool ideas. how often do you get intelligent nonbipedal alien monsters in popular scifi? i love it!

too bad it NEVER engages with them.
