Every year on this day I take a holiday for myself. You have no idea what Muslims have had to endure on this day. Or any Brown people period. I was forced on this day to assault/batter a man who attacked my taxi driver (he was a Sikh) for being โ€œmooslemโ€. That was an ugly day...
The propaganda on this day worked so quickly that within hours of the first tower strike the โ€œugly amerikkkansโ€ were on the attack. I left the @Complex offices after KET & I watched the news online and saw the plane strike. I walked outside to hail a cab back to Brooklyn. ...
When I opened the cab door I saw the driver and his turban. He was to me clearly a Sikh. I did not give the greeting A Salaamu Alaikum. I began to ask if he would go to Brooklyn sometimes taxis would refuse the trip. Out of nowhere a large man a redneck came barreling toward us.
He hurled insults and expletives at my driver. I had gotten in but not yet shut the door. My driver looked at me in the rear view mirror. He was terrified. The man reached for him through the open window. I reacted in a flash. I jumped out the ajar door screaming for him to stop.
He turned toward me and I could see he wasnโ€™t a human being. He was programmed and full of ignorance & the evil that only powerless guilt ridden whites carry. In a split second I lost My comportment my old self took over. I drew back my right shoulder and arm and I did it...
I bombed on him with my right fist putting all 222 pounds of my weight into it. The punch connected with his nose and eye as intended. He went down. I kicked him repeatedly with my Adidas, stomped his face, and jumped on his groin a few times for good measure. Then I yelled ...
For all who had gathered around to hear โ€œheโ€™s not a Muslim! But I am!โ€ Got in the taxi shut the door and gave my Sikh driver my address on Kent Avenue in Brooklyn. My driver cried & thanked me. He said the man wouldโ€™ve tried to kill him. That the news on the radio blamed Muslims
The man took me to my door. I hadnโ€™t had a fight or even had to defend myself in decades. I felt sick from adrenaline and the dread of that day and the smoke and ash and hatred. My driver wouldnโ€™t let me pay. I went inside and I cried for hours in my little windowless apartment.
My husband got in contact with me that week very worried because he wasnโ€™t there. I told him donโ€™t come to NY itโ€™s dangerous. He told me as heโ€™d told his mother and sister to stop wearing my headscarf or even a head wrap. His mother wore a beanie hat for years afterward. ...
I was already traumatized by the events. @Complex forced us back to work immediately by 9/13 I was in the office trying to work while shellshocked. All these years later we still affected. I live in a small podunk town now & I wonโ€™t be going outside today. Itโ€™s not safe on 9/11.
I wrote this years later for @pambazuka "The Terror of Isms: a primer on causing terror amongst the terrified." pambazuka.org/governance/terโ€ฆ I ask that U read it on this day.

Me, I'm chillin hard today. I'm a Lady, putting my SELF first. ladiesfirstladiesfirst.substack.com

I come from a millionaire father who tried to starve me to death, who left me homeless more than once... Generosity comes from my Mother's side of the family. My Granddaddy was GENEROUS and helpful, especially toward the women in the family. I have always made my own money. ...
I've never been in boyfriend/girlfriend relationships, rarely if ever been to movies, dinner, date nights, etc. The men who've bought things for me were dope boys for whom I did work, and later music artists for whom I did work. Those are GRATUITIES. I've *NEVER* gold-dug. ...
Now that I'm 46 & older men sometimes approach me, or any suitors - first of all I am Muslim & although my father is gone & male blood family members are loose with it, I do have a Wali & if you REALLY wanted to approach me, approach him. If you want to "date" me I don't do that.

I get that everyone is out here trying to make a way financially in the business of music, but look here. PRODUCERS/DJs there's a way to speak correctly to talent (MCs, rappers, vocalists) if U want to barter work-for-hire. Rude comments when U are the one asking for a "feature"
are not the biz. "I don't pay rappers" sounds like A HOST OF FUCKERY AND THE ANTITHESIS OF BUSINESS. It sounds, from the jump, that NO ONE is going to make A THIN DIME. If U mean there is no budget, why not say that in the initial outreach for the "feature"? Barter is cool...
We like to trade great production for dope lyrics all day. HOWEVER no cash budget does not mean U don't a) complete a simple work for hire agreement b) collect everyone's publishing information and REGISTER THE WORKS c) get emails for distrokid to make sure all get their pieces.

@StevenMOConnor For me with the nas itโ€™s the mass appeal links and connection. For the art cover those youth are from Dallas thatโ€™s why nowaah chose it. In my research I found actually @AugustFanon used the photo first. @uproxx nor @Complex @SameOldShawn caught that nor done follow up
@StevenMOConnor @AugustFanon @UPROXX @Complex @SameOldShawn So although @ArchitectHHP was super chill in his interview no one ever spoke to Nowaah the Flood and no one looked at how mass appeal frequently blogged Nowaahโ€™s music on the regular then never posted his music again? U wonder if nas requested that to happen... mysterious!
@StevenMOConnor @AugustFanon @UPROXX @Complex @SameOldShawn also @SameOldShawn no dis to U meant in any way, U did your piece 4 complex when it was the "hot goss" u interviewed Architect and the article was well done, picked up by uproxx et al. i helped build/create complex & left when it morphed into the folly, i'd never blame U 4 them.

I had a choice this week, an extremely difficult choice where I could of made a good chunk of money. But I would've had to deal with/talk to/negotiate with an executive at RSE/Rhymesayers. My Sister @PsalmOne and a cadre of other humans have already said it is #BoycottRhymesayers
There are a number of cases within the label, in particular members of DOomtree and the punk/hip hop MC P.O.S. a variety of accusations and alleged incidents. I'm an abolitionist I am not a sit around and wait for a white man in a uniform or a robe to tell me to BELIEVE WOMEN.
I always believe all women. If a woman says such and such tried to r*pe her, I believe the woman. If verifiable proof comes out later to the contrary, perhaps I'll take her words with a grain of salt, but IT COSTS YOU NOTHING to believe women when they tell you about abuse/rape.

Rappers, none of U have ever committed domestic violence toward me. The man who raped me when I was in my teens is long dead, outing him wouldn't be useful. I can only say to artists (and regular gentlemen alike) if you're reading this and have beaten a woman, raped someone, ...
or otherwise have abused or are in the process of abusing women, children, elders - first of all, we see U. Please seek help right away, if you're reading this and don't know where to turn, as an empath who is already overwhelmed, I will allow U to DM me and I'll find help for U.
If U have the wherewithal, talk to ur manager, a friend, a family member (one whom you have never abused) and ask them to help you. U might need counseling, therapy, medication, time to rest, time away from the public, TIME AWAY FROM SOCIAL MEDIA, time to reflect on your actions.

any time you're working on music w/ another artist, producer, DJ, singer, songwriter, rapper, MC, session musican, you should always have some kind of document. I keep a short, mostly blank form for people to have at the studio. the date, whether it is work for hire, names, ...
the tentative song title, who produced it, length, BPMs, samples used, and for each artist regardless of role their full name, mailing address, social or taxpayer ID, phone #, email, SOCIAL MEDIA HANDLES (so important nowadays), cost if work for hire, paid or invoiced, PUBLISHING
entities for each artist and their roles (BMI, SESAC, ASCAP, etc.) everyone initial and sign the form, take a photo with your phone, send it to all the players/management, then file the original forms or have a manager do that. **this is what management is for by the way. this**
